Member Profiles Roy Pirie (Chair) Roy has had a varied career as Regional Controller of Odeon Cinemas, a Management Accountant and General Manager of Forton Motorway Services with responsibility for designing and commissioning new service areas. Roy has 10 years experience of providing management services and financial accounting for a local international sports car racing company. He also ran a local zoo for over 6 years Roy began working with Dallam School as a Parent Governor in 1999 before becoming a Trustee of the South Westmorland Multi-Academy Trust and then a Member in 2020. Roy chaired the Dallam School/South Westmorland MAT Finance Committee for over 15 years. Roy is also a Trustee of the Dallam School Charitable Trust and lives in Tarvin. Chester. Positions held: Trustee of the Dallam School Charitable Trust Reverend Susan Wilson Sue was Headteacher of three large primary schools in Bristol and Bath over a twenty year period. She left to take up a post as a Primary Education Adviser for Wiltshire County Council’s Education Authority. Sue was ordained as an Anglican Priest in 1999 and was Priest in Baths and Wells Diocese for 7 years before moving to Cumbria in 2006 to become Priest in Charge of Heversham and Milnthorpe until her retirement in October 2016. Sue was a Trustee of the South Westmorland Trust until 2020 when she was appointed as Member. Sue lives in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria. Jayne Clarke Jayne has been Principal at the highly successful Oldham Sixth Form College since 2010, and Executive Principal for the Pinnacle Learning Trust since 2017. She is an active member of the Sixth Form College Association Council and Chair of the Funding Committee. Jayne is a National Leader of Education, a member of the Oldham Opportunity Area Partnership Board and continues to support other secondary schools that are not members of The Pinnacle Learning Trust through membership of a number of Governing Bodies. Jayne lives in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. Enid Fraser Enid is a retired headteacher. She spent 8 years as headteacher at Settlebeck School in Sedbergh having previously been the Deputy Head. Following this period, she became part of Cumbria’s School Improvement Team, supported primary and secondary schools across the county, delivered training, helped to develop the original NPQH and became a course leader. She also trained as an Ofsted inspector as part of the Cumbria team, participating in many inspections in the north of England. In 1999, Enid returned to headship at Parkview School in Barrow in Furness. Retiring in 2008, she became Executive Officer for the South Lakes Federation (Ltd) where she managed the business, worked closely with schools and their headteachers and supported the strategic direction and development of the federation. She has worked as an independent consultant and been involved in the recruitment of number of senior leaders in schools. Enid is currently the Chair of the South Westmorland MAT Board and lives in Levens. In particular, schools were asked to explore innovative ways of using the technology to help teach more complex scientific and mathematical ideas. Small Schools Work
PRESS RELEASE – 06.02.2009 SMALL SCHOOLS WORK The small rural secondary schools which make up the Rural Academy of Cumbria are leading the way in raising pupils’ attainment. Not only are their results improving faster than many schools in Cumbria but three of them were amongst the top five most improved schools in the country in 2008. Susie Shepherd, headteacher of Solway School, Silloth and chair of the Rural Academy Steering Group said, ‘We are all delighted with our 2008 examination results. Since 2004 the member schools have demonstrated the truly collaborative approach summarised in our motto, ‘Shared futures from local strengths’’ The Rural Academy of Cumbria was established to support the original partnership of nine schools which were all designated as specialist technology schools in 2004. Their bid for specialist school status as a group of collaborating schools was a unique achievement and resulted in them all receiving additional resources from the government which they would not have been able to achieve on their own. Member schools of the Rural Academy serve very varied communities spread out across Cumbria. The majority of the schools have less than 250 pupils with the largest, Appleby Grammar School, having just over 600. The schools have worked together and used their collective expertise to bring about rapid and wide-ranging improvements in the quality of the education they provide for their pupils. Over the past four years the examination results for each of the schools have been improving and in 2008 they have achieved their most notable successes to date. Settlebeck School, Sedbergh and Solway School, Silloth were joint third in the list of most improved secondary schools in the country.

11 Million Takeover Day Events 30-10-08
Cumbria’s 11 MILLION Takeover Day Events Please note that all of the events detailed below will be taking place on 11MILLION Takeover Day, Friday 7 November, unless otherwise stated. County Wide • Connexions Cumbria has invited Emma Haddon, a Year 10 pupil from The Queen Katherine School in Kendal, to shadow Sian Rees, the Chief Executive of Connexions Cumbria, for the day. She will begin the day at Connexions Cumbria Partnership Office at Hackthorpe, and then spent time at one of our local centers in Kendal. Following an application process, linked to the school curriculum a selection panel who met on 21 st October comprised six year 10 students from The Queen Katherine School, Dallam School and Settlebeck High School. They came together at Kendal Connexions Centre for a training session and held the interviews to choose from three candidates (one from each of the three schools). On takeover day, the successful candidate, Emma will be chairing a meeting and learning how the service is planned at a strategic level. Emma will also be involved in considering service provision from a young person’s perspective. • Cumbria Constabulary is offering young people the opportunity to take part in police dog training at Penrith Police Headquarters. Afterwards, there will be a debate from which their views will be fed into the police planning process currently underway which decide the police priorities for Cumbria in 2009/10. A young person from Underley Hall School in Kirby Lonsdale will be shadowing PC Simone Cookson on a tour of duty. The day will include a selection of meetings and will emphasise how Cumbria Constabulary work in partnership in South Lakeland with other partner agencies that have an impact on young people in the area.

Old Hutton CE VC Primary School Prospectus Welcome to our School At Old Hutton Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School we value every individual equally, and are committed to providing the best education within a caring, family atmosphere. The school has close links with St John the Baptist's Church next door, and is committed to working closely with the local community.
