COUNCIL OF LEGAL EDUCATION ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR ADMISSION IN 2020 TO: NORMAN MANLEY LAW SCHOOL (Jamaica) HUGH WOODING LAW SCHOOL (Trinidad & Tobago) EUGENE DUPUCH LAW SCHOOL (The Bahamas) Legal Education Certificate - Two Year Programme Applications are invited from holders of a first degree in Law obtained from a recognized institution in a common law jurisdiction (in accordance with Article 3 of the Treaty Establishing the Council of Legal Education), or holders of the Common Professional Examination Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Law from a recognized institution (UK) together with vocational training, and who wish to be considered for selection for the Two-Year Legal Education Certificate Programme. ALL APPLICANTS will be required to sit an entrance examination which will be held in July 2020. This is not applicable to holders of the University of the West Indies LL.B. degree. This examination is intended to assist with determining priority placing to the Law Schools and IS SUBJECT TO SPACE AVAILABILITY. The examination will consist of testing in basic core courses. The Board is the final sanctioning authority in respect of all matters concerning the examination and the allocation of places to successful candidates. The Examination: The Examination will be by way of testing in selected core subject areas in essay/problem format. There will be one paper comprising the following: Traditional Core Subjects : Contract; Tort; Property; Equity; and Criminal Law. Two questions will be set in each subject area and applicants will be required to answer five questions, one question from each of the subject areas. The Commission was launched on Saturday 2nd March, 2013 at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, and has now completed its deliberations. During its tenure, it held seventeen public consultations and two private consultations, and received various forms of correspondence in either hard copy or electronic format. One member, Mr. Justice Sebastian Ventour, resigned in July 2013, consequent upon his appointment to the Integrity Commission. This Report has been subject to open and frank discussion among members of the Commission and the legal team that supported the Commission. I am confident that the Report will advance the cause of constitutional reform in 2014 as promised in the Manifesto of the People’s Partnership.
