Hij is jong en dakloos, leeft in een kartonnen doos onder de Brooklyn Bridge. Zonder enige hoop op verbetering, besluit Lucas zelfmoord te plegen. Maar net als elke andere poging in zijn leven, mislukt deze ook. Terwijl hij in het ziekenhuis herstelt, deelt Lucas een kamer met Jacques, een chagrijnige eigenaar van een bar wiens ongezonde leefstijl heeft geleidt tot maarliefst vijf hartaanvallen. Zonder familie en met een grote kans dat hij elk moment komt te overlijden, neemt Jacques Lucas onder zijn hoede met het doel zijn nalatenschap aan hem door te geven. Lucas trekt bij hem in en zo begint een hectisch leerproces in de bar met de daarbij behorende regels en filosofieën. Tegen alle verwachtingen in, ontstaat er tussen Jacques en Lucas een ongewone vriendschap. Alles lijkt volgens plan te verlopen, totdat op een dag April binnen komt lopen. Lucas kan de mooie en wanhopige April niet afwijzen en biedt haar een plek aan, wat een ware dreiging voor Jacques’s plan betekent. De tragikomedie The Good Heart is de eerste Engelstalige speelfilm van de in Frankrijk geboren, IJslandse regisseur en scenarioschrijver Dagur Kári (Noi albinoi). I like arthouse cinema too and alternative dramatic structures. Sitcoms tend to have crappy aesthetics and arthouse tends to take itself too seriously. My aim is to make a broth out of the elements I love from each format. To mix humor with poetry and comedy with tragedy.” - Dagur Kári DAGUR KÁRI – BIOGRAPHY Born 1973 in Aix-en-Provence, France, to Icelandic parents, Kári moved to Iceland at the age of 3 and was raised there. He studied film directing in Copenhagen from 1995 to 1999. His graduation film LOST WEEKEND won many international awards. Kári's first feature NÓI ALBÍNÓI was released in 2003 and was a worldwide art-house hit. His second feature DARK HORSE premiered in Cannes in Un Certain Regard, 2005. Kári is also a musician and has been a member of the duo slowblow since 1994. They have released several albums and composed the soundtracks to all Kári´s films.
