Robert Ludlum killed by another man who later took on his identity to work for the U.S. government. During the operation, he was shot in the head and lost his memory. A Canadian woman, Marie, now his wife, helped this man recover his memory. He is now known as David Webb and he teaches in Maine. Havilland explains that they need Webb to return to Asia as Bourne in order to stop a plot organized by Sheng Chouyang, a Chinese minister of state. McAllister goes to Webb’s house and tells him that a banker, Yao Ming, believes that Bourne has killed his wife but Webb doesn’t believe him. Some time later, Marie is kidnapped. Webb vows to find her and kill those who have hurt her using the powers he has as .
