CHICAGO PREMIERE by JAMES IJAMES directed by WARDELL JULIUS CLARK LOBBY EXPERIENCE SAY THEIR NAMES The 137 names on this wall represent the “List of the Fallen” a remembrance of Black people living in the United States who have been killed by police or other law enforcement officers in the past 20 years. In Kill Move Paradise, Isa reads these names from an ever-expanding list, one spit out from a printer, one name at a time, growing longer and longer over the course of the play. The people on this wall—sons and daughters, parents and grandparents, educators and scholars, athletes and artists, senior citizens and children—are by no means a complete documentation of the deaths of Black people at the hands of police officers over the course of the past two decades. In fact, according to a Washington Post-curated police-shooting database that records and analyze every fatal shooting by an on-duty police officer in the United States, in 2019 alone, at least 235 Black people lost their lives due to this type of systemic violence at the hands of the police. Rather than paint a complete picture, these names represent just a small sampling of the loss of Black life, meant to remind us of the vastness of this epidemic. The List of the Fallen was initially crafted by playwright James Ijames while writing the play, and, with his encouragement, added to by the production team during the rehearsal process in an attempt to reflect the continued violence experienced by Black bodies since the publishing of the script. -

Summary of Sexual Abuse Claims in Chapter 11 Cases of Boy Scouts of America There are approximately 101,135sexual abuse claims filed. Of those claims, the Tort Claimants’ Committee estimates that there are approximately 83,807 unique claims if the amended and superseded and multiple claims filed on account of the same survivor are removed. The summary of sexual abuse claims below uses the set of 83,807 of claim for purposes of claims summary below.1 The Tort Claimants’ Committee has broken down the sexual abuse claims in various categories for the purpose of disclosing where and when the sexual abuse claims arose and the identity of certain of the parties that are implicated in the alleged sexual abuse. Attached hereto as Exhibit 1 is a chart that shows the sexual abuse claims broken down by the year in which they first arose. Please note that there approximately 10,500 claims did not provide a date for when the sexual abuse occurred. As a result, those claims have not been assigned a year in which the abuse first arose. Attached hereto as Exhibit 2 is a chart that shows the claims broken down by the state or jurisdiction in which they arose. Please note there are approximately 7,186 claims that did not provide a location of abuse. Those claims are reflected by YY or ZZ in the codes used to identify the applicable state or jurisdiction. Those claims have not been assigned a state or other jurisdiction. Attached hereto as Exhibit 3 is a chart that shows the claims broken down by the Local Council implicated in the sexual abuse. -

McMurtry-Chubb' On June 30, 1974, Alberta Williams King was shot and killed in the sanctuary of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia as she played the organ for Sunday morning service.3 Mrs. King, seventy years old, was the mother of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.' News of her death was overshadowed by four Black men: her son, killed six years previously; the shooting of a "young Black man" in Atlanta on June 26, 1. The African American Policy Institute in partnership with the Center for Intersectionality and Social Policy Studies at Columbia Law School created the hashtag "#SayHerName" to bring awareness to the absence of discussion and collective action around Black women and policing. Abstract Using Antoine Hennion’s “anti-musicology”, this research project proposes a methodology for studying music production that empowers production choices as the primary analytical tool. It employs this methodology to analyze Kesha’s Rainbow, Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer, and St. Vincent’s Masseduction according to four, encompassing groups of production elements: musical elements, lyrical elements, personal elements, and narrative elements. All three albums were critical and commercial successes, and analyzing their respective choices offers valuable insight into the practice of successful producers that could not necessarily be captured by methodologies traditionally used for studying production, such as the interview. -

Making Black Lives Matter: Fanonian Notes About Today’s (Shifting) Front Lines By Tracey Nicholls Emmett Till, say his name. Amadou Diallo, say his name. Trayvon Martin, say his name. Aiyana Jones, say her name. Sandra Bland, say her name. This a small selection of lyrics from “Hell You Talmbout”, a song recorded by Janelle Monáe and Wondaland in 2015 to protest the endemic racialised violence that African-Americans face everyday in encounters with law enforcement. It is a memorialisation of the human beings whose legally- sanctioned homicides have produced searing, horrifying story after story in the American news for decades. Emmett Till was lynched in 1955. Freddie Grey, another of the names in the lyrics, was fatally injured in the custody of Baltimore police in the year this song was released. This song is more than a monument to lives lost to racism and hatred; it is an anthem that is shaping and giving moral force to the Black Lives Matter movement. Despite its clear call for diversity in mobilising people to fight for recognition of black people’s humanity and the right of African-Americans to live their lives in the context of respect and security that white middle class Americans take for granted, BLM is frequently the target of criticism that it is promoting an exclusionary “black nationalist” agenda. Black Lives Matter (BLM) was founded in 2013 by three American women of colour – Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi – to rally popular resistance against this deadly state-sponsored violence and to build “a world where Black lives are no longer systematically targeted for demise” (blacklivesmatter.com). -
The Faculty of Rutgers Law School Joins with Other Communities
The faculty of Rutgers Law School joins with other communities around the world, including our own student community, to express our outrage and grief over the public execution of George Floyd. We also join in solidarity with those in the United States and elsewhere who stand in protest against a widespread pattern of state-sanctioned violence directed against Black people and other oppressed communities. Black lives matter. The recent killings of Layleen Polanco, Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Trayvon Martin, Sean Bell, Philando Castile, Tanisha Anderson, Atatiana Jefferson, Charleena Lyles, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Maurice Gordon, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Michael Brown Jr., Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, Tony McDade, and many others have roots in a history of white supremacy. America’s criminal justice system traces back to slave patrols, Reconstruction, the development of Jim and Jane Crow, and the convict leasing system, whereby Black people (including children, adults, and the elderly) were arrested for loitering and then leased out to be worked to death. That history has not yet been overcome. We recognize that many of our current and past faculty, administrators, staff, and students have expended tremendous time and energy advocating for racial justice. Indeed, in 1969, the Association of Black Law Students (ABLS) at Rutgers School of Law in Newark led a shutdown of the Law School until certain student demands—including that the Law School undertake curricular change to address the legal needs of communities -

Both music and politics are two of my biggest interests, so I felt that this class would allow me to create a very unique final project. For my project, I decided to create my own political concept album that would analyze the role of music in certain social and political movements. Inspired by old vinyl records, this curation will contain 12 songs that are divided evenly on each side of the record. Side A will contain six songs that are considered anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, while Side B will contain six songs that are considered anthems for the Black Lives Matter Movement.
