FAMILIAR FACES Tonight, Jason Pominvillewill return to Buffalo for the first time since being traded to Minnesota with a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 in exchange for Johan Larsson, Matt Hackett and a first-round pick in 2013 (Nikita Zadorov). Selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Pominville spent the better part of nine seasons as a member of the Sabres (2003-13) and served as at the time of his to the Wild. Over this time, he suited up for a total of 578 games with Buffalo and recorded 456 points (185+271).

Larsson was drafted by the Wild in second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (56th overall) and appeared in one game during the 2012-13 season for the club, before joining the Sabres. He will face the Wild for the first time in his career tonight.

GOING STREAKING Cody Hodgson has points (1+4) in four consecutive games entering tonight, tying his career-best streak set from Dec. 19-26, 2011 as a member of the .

VANEK IN ELITE COMPANY With his goal on Thursday vs. CBJ, Thomas Vanek tied Craig Ramsay for fifth-most goals in Sabres franchise history (252). He is now 15 goals shy of Danny Gare for fourth and 16 shy of Dave Andreychuk for third. Vanek is currently 15th on the Sabres’ games played list and his .426 goals per game rank him seventh in franchise history, behind Pat LaFontaine (.590), Rick Martin (.561), Alexander Mogilny (.554), Danny Gare (.531), Dave Andreychuk (.440) and Gilbert Perreault (.430) and just ahead of Rene Robert (.423).

LOGGING BIG MINUTES Through six games, Christian Ehrhoff has averaged 25:40 TOI per game, topping his career-high average of 25:11 set last season and the highest per-game average by a Sabres skater since Alexei Zhitnik averaged 26:32 per game in the 2002-03 season.

FAST STARTER Over the course of his career, Thomas Vanek is better than a point-per-game player during the first 10 games of the season, totaling 94 points (47+47) in 86 career games during this portion of the schedule. Granlund, BUF D Rasmus Ristolainen and BUF RW Joel Armia all represented at the 2012 World Junior Championship.

Armia (16th overall) and MIN D Jonas Brodin (10th overall) were both first round selections in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Brodin played alongside BUF LW Johan Larsson for Team Sweden at the 2012 World Junior Championship, capturing the gold medal after a 1-0 victory over Russia in the final game.

BUF AC Teppo Numminen and MIN C Mikko Koivu played together on the 2006 Finnish Olympic Team.

Koivu and Ristolainen were both born in Turku, Finland and played together for a portion of the 2012-13 season with TPS Turku (SM- , Finland).

Pominville, MIN LW Zach Parise, MIN D Keith Ballard and BUF RW Drew Stafford all represented the at the 2008 World Hockey Championship. Ballardand Staffordplayed together in the 2009 Championship as well.

Parise and Stafford were also teammates at the University of during the 2003-04 season. The two played alongside MIN D Ryan Suter for the United States during the 2004 World Junior Championship, while Suter and Stafford both donned the red, white and blue during the 2005 World Juniors as well as the 2006 and 2009 World Hockey Championship.

Parise, Suter and BUF LW Thomas Vanek were all first round selections in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Vanek was chosen 5th overall, while Suter and Parise were taken 7th and 17th, respectively.

1. Minnesota joins San Jose as the only team to outshoot its opponent in every game this season, including a 65-25 advantage in the second period. Entering play Sunday, Minnesota leads the NHL in fewest shots against/game (21.4) and ranks ninth in shots/game (32.4). From 2011-12 to 2012-13, Minnesota improved its per-game shot differential by 6.6 shots; the largest single-season increase by any NHL team in the last five seasons. Since 2008-09, only four other teams have improved their shot differential by more than 5.0 shots per game.

2. Matt Cooke has four points (2-2=4), including both game-winning goals, in his last two games. He leads Minnesota in points (3-2=5), multi-point games (2), plus/minus rating (+4) and has yet to take a penalty.

3. Jason Pominville returns to Buffalo after being acquired by the Wild April 3. He signed a five-year contract extension with Minnesota on the first day of the season, Oct. 3. He totaled 456 points (185-271=456) in 578 games with the Sabres. Since the start of the 2007- 08 season, he ranks 20th for most assists and 26th in scoring amongst all NHL players. He also ranks T-9th in the NHL with 535 games played since the start of 2006-07, not missing a game in five of the last seven seasons.

4. Minnesota has collected points in four of its five games this season (2-1-2). The Wild has scored first in four of the contests and, entering play Sunday, ranks T-3rd in the NHL with seven first-period goals. Minnesota has also scored a power-play goal in four games, ranking fifth in the NHL in power-play percentage (30.4%).

5. Minnesota opens a four-game road trip, tied for its longest of the season. The Wild went 12-11-1 on the road last season, including a five-game road win streak (3/9-3/25) that was the second-longest in team history. The streak set a franchise record with four straight road victories by more than one goal and matched a franchise record with four straight road regulation victories.

6. Per Elias Sports Bureau, Justin Fontaine and Mathew Dumba became the fourth Wild duo to score their first career NHL goals in the same game Saturday. Fontaine not only set a franchise record for fastest Wild goal to start a game (:12), he matched the NHL’s record for fastest first career goal (Rick Boh, North Stars,1988).

7. Entering play Sunday, Minnesota leads the NHL in faceoff win percentage (58.4%). Minnesota set a franchise record by winning 45- of-61 faceoffs Thursday vs. Winnipeg (73.8%). Zenon Konopka has won 30-of-43 draws this season (69.8%), while Kyle Brodziak has won 50-of-81 (61.7%), and Mikko Koivu 66-of-107 (61.7%). Koivu also ranks sixth in the NHL in faceoffs won and eighth in faceoffs taken. Konopka ranks first amongst all NHL players with a 59.2% career faceoff win percentage.

8. Jonas Brodin has recorded a point in four of the five games this season, leading Wild defensemen (2-2=4). Entering play Sunday, he’s T-10th amongst NHL blueliners in points, ranks T-5th in the NHL in shooting percentage (40.0%) and ranks 13th in the league in TOI/game (24:51). As the youngest defenseman in NHL last year, he led rookies in TOI/game (23:12), 1:38 more than any other rookie; his TOI/game total ranked 37th amongst all NHL players. The Karlstad, Sweden native was named to the 2012-13 NHL All-Rookie Team and finished fourth in voting.

9. Josh Harding has earned victories in both starts this season and, entering play Sunday, ranks sixth amongst NHL goalies in GAA (1.07). The only even-strength goal he has allowed this season was a penalty shot (Nystrom) Tuesday in Nashville, which he came off the bench to face after Niklas Backstrom was injured on the play.

10. Ryan Suter leads the NHL in TOI/game (28:45), having led all skaters (Wild and opponent) in ice time during every game this season. He’s topped 30 minutes TOI in three games this year, while adding three assists. Last season, the alternate captain led the NHL in TOI/game at 27:16 (franchise record) and skated more than 30 minutes in 10 regular season games. He also led the NHL in TOI/game during the playoffs at 31:37, skating 41:08 in Game 1 at CHI (4/30). Suter ranked second in assists and third in scoring amongst defensemen last season and was named to the 2012-13 NHL First All-Star Team and a finalist for the James Norris Memorial Trophy for first time in his career (finished second in voting).

11. Zach Parise has four goals in his last four games, leading the Wild. Entering play Sunday, his three PPG are T-1st amongst NHL players and his 30 shots are T-2nd. Last season, the alternate captain led the Wild in goals (18), points (38), power-play goals (7), game-winning goals (4), shots (182), three-point games (3) and ranked T-2nd in multi-point games (7) during his first season with Minnesota. Parise also ranked third in the NHL in shots and 14thin TOI/game (20:40) amongst forwards.

12. Nino Niederreiter scored his first goal with Minnesota Sunday and now has three points (1-2=3) in five games, equaling his previous NHL totals (2-1=3) in 64 games over parts of two seasons with the New York Islanders (2010-12).

13.Mikko Koivu tallied a power-play assist Tuesday to notch his 400th career NHL point (119-281-400) and became the Wild’s all-time leader in power-play points Oct. 5. He needs 37 points to become Minnesota’s all-time leading scorer (Gaborik, 219-218=437). His 119 career goals are tied with Andrew Brunette for second on the Wild’s all-time list (Gaborik, 219).

14.
