uring an official visit to India, Dr DAshton Carter, the United States Secretary of Defence, met Defence Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar and called on Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi. He also met the External Affairs Minister Mrs Sushma Swaraj and the National Security Adviser Mr Ajit Doval. Defence Minister and Secretary Carter discussed the India-US defence relationship, and the broader India-US Strategic Partnership, and reaffirmed their commitment to expand and deepen the bilateral defence relationship. The two also reviewed the existing and emerging regional security dynamics. Air Marshal Ravinder Kumar Dhir took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC- in-C) of South Western Air Command (SWAC) on June 1, 2015. On arrival at HQ SWAC, the Air Marshal inspected a ceremonial Guard of honour and met the key personnel. On assuming command as the AOC-in-C of SWAC, he extended warm greetings to all personnel and their families. He urged all Air warriors to continue their relentless effort with dedication to attain higher levels of operational capability while executing assigned tasks efficiently with utmost safety. Air Marshal Ravinder Kumar Dhir, an alumnus of National Defence Academy Khadakwasala was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on June 15, 1979. The Air Marshal has flown over 3200 hours on more than 25 types of aircrafts in his career spanning over 36 years. For his distinguished service, he has been awarded with ‘Vayu Sena Medal’ and ‘’ by the President of India. The Air Marshal has a rich and diverse experience in operational and experimental test flying. He is a qualified Flying Instructor, an Experimental Test Pilot and has commanded the Air force Test Pilot School. During his tenure at ADE, he has been instrumental in providing valuable inputs to the LCA project. The Air Marshal has been the project Test Pilot of the BISON upgrade project team at Russia and later commanded the first Bison Sqn at Ambala and has commanded a frontline operational airbase. He has served as the Principal Director Air Staff Requirements at Air HQs. He was also the Technical Manager (Air) at Acquisition Wing in Ministry of Defence and carried forward the drive for new acquisitions in IAF. He has served twice earlier at South Western Air Command as Air Defence Commander and Senior Air Staff Officer. Before taking over his present appointment as AOC-in-C, SWAC IAF, he held the appointment of Senior Air Staff Officer at Southern Air Command.

Rear Admiral Philipose G Pynumootil took over as Assistant Chief of Naval staff (Air) on promotion. An alumnus of the Lawrence School, Lovedale and the National Defence Academy (67th course), he was commissioned in the Indian Navy on January 1, 1986. A rotary wing pilot qualified on Sea King 42 B / C and Alouette helicopters, he has served as Flight Commander INS Delhi, Senior Pilot - Marine Commando Flight & INAS 330, and commanded the carrier borne ASW Sea King Squadron, INAS 330. He was also the commissioning Commanding Officer of the Naval Air Station, INS Shikra. A former Instrument Rating Examiner on Sea Kings, the officer has flown extensively during Operation Pawan, Sri Lanka and Operation Restore Hope, Somalia. Prior to taking over his current appointment, he served as the Principal Director of Aircraft Acquisition. The Flag officer has commanded the 1241 RE corvette, INS Nashak, the missile corvette INS Kirpan and the Guided Missile Frigate INS Brahmaputra, besides doing a tenure as Executive Officer of the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Delhi. The officer was awarded the Nao Sena Medal for his tenure in command of INS Brahmaputra. The Flag Officer has undergone the Staff Course at the DSSC, Wellington, Tamil Nadu and the Higher Air Command Course at the College of Air Warfare, Hyderabad. He is a post graduate in Defence Studies and holds an M Phil (Strategic Studies).He is an alumnus of the Royal College of Defence Studies, London and attained an MA (International Relations) from Kings College, London.
