I hope that everyone enjoyed it and that the various events swelled the coffers of some of our village groups. I thought Gala Day afternoon went really smoothly and was fun; the weather helped of course. My highlight would have to be the hearing dogs demonstration, but it was also nice to see the younger element getting stuck into the Infinity Tower. I hope both items become a fixture. Many, many people go into making something like this a success, so it’s invidious to pick out individuals, but I’m going to try anyway! Special thanks for making Gala Week a success to Judith, Karen, Katrina, Keira, Keith, Kelly, Paddie, Sadie and Sarah as well as various Parish Councillors. If I’ve missed you out then it’s entirely my fault - apologies and thanks to you too! Enjoy this month’s Parish Pump! All the best - Joe PLAIG - September 2014 Planning Applications PA14/ Planning permission already obtained for 2 – storey Mr Adam Driver 05202 garage extension and single storey kitchen extension (PA13/05222). VOLUNTEERS FOR YOUTH GROUP Parents – are your children at a loose end of an evening? We need volunteers to run more evening sessions at our Youth Café in Millennium House. We have a successful Thursday evening session from 7 to 9 pm and would like to run further evenings, but we need volunteers willing to help with the teenagers. If you can commit regularly to one evening a week and would like to know more please contact the Parish Clerk on 01579 363096 or [email protected] 5 The latest from your Parish Councillor—Martin Corney One of the benefits of having the solar farm in our parish is that we get payments to use for charitable purposes. The Parish Council has decided to use the current payment as seed money to improve the children's play facilities at St Ive Cross. The idea is for something like the Pensilva Play Park and Skate Park. To set this going, Councillor Keith Mutton and myself will be holding an initial meeting in St Ive Methodist Chapel at 7 pm Tuesday 2nd September. Come along and join us in improving our children's environment in St Ive. The six week period for completing the Neighbourhood Development Plan Survey has now finished. The number of completed surveys has been impressively large. Well done everyone. The results are being turned into graphs even as I write this, and by the time you read this a report will be available on the internet. (See the parish website.) To turn the results of our survey into a plan we can all vote on, we could really use more people on the NDP Working Group. If you have any experience in planning or report writing - Your Parish Needs You - please contact me. The Millennium House Forum meetings are getting down to business now. I'm sure that Joe will cover the last month in detail, but don't forget that you can also have your say on the parish website or parish Facebook page. The youth club now has a couple of laptops. Although they also have fun, the main reason for the laptops is practical. We will help school leavers put together CVs, personal statements, and job applications. I also intend to offer a service to people who missed out on learning about emails, but would like to communicate with distant friends. We could get together in the Millennium House Cafe. Do you think there will be any takers? Don’t forget the parish website st-ive-parishcouncil.gov.uk with council meeting agendas and minutes; also downloadable copies of the Parish Pump. For those of you who do Facebook, our St Ive Parish Council page is still being updated with parish news. Phone me, email me on [email protected] or "martin corney blog st ive" in search engines will find my blogs for you to comment on this article and other gems. ANY UNWANTED DVD’S, CD’S AND GAMES WE CAN TURN THEM INTO CASH FOR PESILVA PRIMARY SCHOOL FUNDS. PLEASE GIVE ANY UNWANTED ITEMS INTO SCHOOL RECEPTION OR MILLENNIUM HOUSE RECEPTION. FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT 6 PENSILVA PRIMARY SCHOOL ON 01579 362546 From Cllr Steph McWilliam – September 2014 I have only been down to Truro twice in August, once for the commemoration of the start of World War One and once for a meeting of Group Leaders about a governance review. The commemoration was simple but effective and I was impressed by the thought that had gone into planning it. The governance review is to consider how well the changes from the last council are working. With a cabinet system, it is easy for ‘backbenchers’ like me to feel that we don’t have much influence over the way decisions are made. However the Portfolio Advisory Committees (PACs) are intended to give us a voice but they are still quite new so it is good to see Cornwall Council reviewing how effective they are. I also met with the Chief Executive, the Finance Director and another Director of CORMAC at their Bodmin offices. I want to be sure that this ‘arm’s length’ company is providing the best possible value for Cornwall’s council tax payers and I am pleased to be able to say that they were very open and frank in their discussion with me.

Housing, transport & accessibility, and health, sport & recreation are the key issues facing communities now and for the future. Communities do recognise that development can help maintain local facilities and services, but would generally prefer development to meet local needs. A number of key messages

Mrs Janet Gorman (Objects) Comment submitted Thu 31 Mar 2011 Will take up 44 acres of (food prodicing) farm land Mrs J Hextall (Objects) Comment submitted Mon 28 Mar 2011 Objection received 23.03.2011 Messers J C Packer (Objects) Comment submitted Wed 23 Mar 2011 I wish to object to the above application on the grounds that it is an unwarranted, unnecessary and unwanted intrusion into the countryside. The proposal may be beneficial in providing green energy, but is an industrial development which should be sited accordingly. Your planning policies would not permit a factory to be sited in this location; why should this be considered? Mr Andrew Selleck (Objects) Comment submitted Wed 23 Mar 2011 I write to formally object to the application as submitted on the following grounds representing my family in ownership of land to the east and north east of Bearland Bridge Cottage immediately adjacent to the application site. I would ask why the Council has not written us as owners of land immediately adjacent to this vast planning proposal, I was only informed by word of mouth, as the application site adjoins our familly's land for most of the north and east boundary. I would have thought that the Council would have considered us an interested party and sent us notification of the application but am informed you only write to householders.

It would appear summer has arrived with a vengeance, not that I’m complaining. Let’s hope it stays around for the children's school holidays, and beyond. The newly refurbished play park is looking good. I expect the youngsters can’t wait to use the new equipment. I understand the Park Project Group are planning a grand opening on Gala Day. Speaking of which there is lots planned for that week with what seems to be something for everyone to enjoy.
