Established in 2004, the UWA Forgarty Scholarship Program is one of Australia’s premier scholarship programs. The scholarship is a joint initiative between the Fogarty Foundation and The University of Western Australia, to award WA’s brightest and most committed students’ scholarships for the entirety of their university degree. The program connects scholars with local and international leaders, to provide Scholars and Alumni leadership opportunities, supported through comprehensive academic scholarships, academic mentoring, career and personal enrichment engagements and paramount to the program is a strong network of likeminded young leaders. 10 new scholarships are awarded each year to students who study across a range of disciplines. UWA Fogarty Undergraduate Scholars who choose to continue their postgraduate study at UWA are also supported in their further studies. The scholarships inclulde a tailored leadership program for the Scholar’s entire university degree that focuses on developing transformative leadership skills in each of the Scholars. The leadership program is a key element of the scholarships, where Scholars learn from, and have access to, a network of leaders, gain some insight into how our community works and hopefully the awareness of how they can make a contribution now and in the future. In 2020 we have 60 Scholars and 96 Alumni who are studying, working and making a contribution in WA and around the world. The UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship Program The Fogarty Foundation and The University of Western Australia view leadership as an integral factor in building strong communities. UWA Fogarty Scholars participate in a tailored Leadership Program that provides Scholars and Alumni with an excellent opportunity to learn from today’s leaders. The Leadership Program expands Scholars’ horizons by initiating opportunities for the Scholars to learn from, and have access to, a network of leaders, gain insight into how our community works and how they can positively make a contribution now and in the future. From 2020 the Leadership Program includes a focus on enterprise bringing Scholars a range of opportunities to challenge their thinking and to develop leadership, entrepreneurial and life skills. The UWA Fogarty Scholars study across a range of disciplines and as they graduate they become members of the UWA Fogarty Scholars Alumni. The alumni is a network of talented and motivated young people working in a variety of professions that will provide ongoing support and affinity between the Scholars as they evolve into their individual roles within the community. The first edition of the Parliamentary Handbook was published in 1922 and together the succeeding volumes represent one of the best historical record of any Parliament in Australia. In this edition a significant restructure of the Handbook has taken place in an effort to improve usability for the reader. The staff of both Houses of Parliament have done an enormous amount of work to restructure this volume for easier reference which has resulted in a more accurate, reliable and internally consistent body of work.

SC1S No: 985856 ISBN 0 7307 2717 3 • ѓ#1•7 mister's forewor Pro'a ьІ y the greatest challenge facing education in Western Australia is that of meeting students' needs as we enter the twenty-first century. The Curriculum Council's Curriculum Framework has placed this State at the forefront of curriculum development in Australia. The task of the Council's Post-Compulsory Education Review is to ensure that upper-secondary is consistent with the Framework and meets the numerous and increasing demands upon our schools. These demands include widespread provision of vocational education and training, responding to the changing workplace and the spread of information technology, and greater flexibility in delivery of education to young people. The first stage of the Review has involved consultation with educationists, teachers, students and industry representatives to develop this discussion paper for community consideration. The paper proposes a new post-compulsory education system that aims to ensure all students are provided with opportunities to develop the knowledge, understandings, skills and values to succeed in their lives. I expect community involvement to be extensive during the consultation phase of the Review. There will be school visits and community seminars in country and metropolitan areas to provide information to teachers, parents and the wider community and to seek their input.
