This decision is only made after considerable deliberation and where possible, in consultation with local schools and the Local Authority. In some instances this is dependent on guaranteeing sufficient staffing levels as well as ensuring a safe environment for the children and staff. FULL DAY CLOSURE: The Headteacher will make the decision as early as possible, preferably by 7.30am, if the school is to be closed for the day. A text will be sent to the first parental contact whose telephone number is on our records. Please help us by ensuring that you notify us of any changes. Announcements will be made on the school website (www.pocklingtonjuniors.co.uk) and the official ERYC website (www.eastriding.gov.uk), please note, other sites may give misleading information. Campbell (The Queen’s University of Belfast) Bas van Leeuwen (Utrecht University) 1.1.1 Introduction Economic growth can be either extensive or intensive. Extensive growth arises where more output is produced in line with a growing population but with living standards remaining constant, while intensive growth arises where more output is produced by each person. In the former case, there is no economic development, as the economy simply reproduces itself on a larger scale: in the latter, living standards rise as the economy goes through a process of economic development. To understand the long-run growth of the British economy reaching back to the thirteenth century therefore requires knowledge of the trajectories followed by both population and GDP. Of particular interest is whether periods of intensive growth, distinguished by rising per capita GDP, were accompanied by expanding or contracting population. For it is one thing for living standards to rise during a period of population decline, such as that induced by the recurrent plagues of the second half of the fourteenth century, when survivors found themselves able to add the land and capital of those who had perished to their own stocks, but quite another for living standards and population to rise together, particularly given the emphasis of Malthus [1798] on diminishing returns. University of York Department of History September 2012 3 Abstract Little academic research has been undertaken concerning Seaside Miniature Railways as they fall outside more traditional subjects such as standard gauge and narrow gauge railway history and development. This dissertation is the first academic study on the subject and draws together aspects of miniature railways, fairground and leisure culture. It examines their history from their inception within the newly developing fairground culture of the United States towards the end of the 19th. century and their subsequent establishment and development within the UK. The development of the seaside and fairground spectacular were the catalysts for the establishment of the SMR in the UK. Their development was largely due to two individuals, W. Bassett-Lowke and Henry Greenly who realized their potential and the need to ally them with a suitable site such as the seaside resort. Without their input there is no doubt that SMRs would not have developed as they did. When they withdrew from the culture subsequent development was firmly in the hands of a number of individual entrepreneurs. Although embedded in the fairground culture they were not totally reliant on it which allowed them to flourish within the seaside resort even though the traditional fairground was in decline.

    Scarborough 2002 A Review of Physical and Economic Resources An Audit of Scarborough Today 1 2 3 4 5 9 6 7 8 Scarborough’s Urban Renaissance Publications The Scarborough Urban Renaissance programme was launched in February 2002 with an explanatory Broadsheet (1), followed by an intensive period of information gathering and community ‘animation’, working towards a large scale Community Planning Weekend for which invitations (2) were distributed in March. Immediately following the Weekend, summary broadsheets of both the proceedings (3) and draft Public Space Strategy (4) were issued, followed in mid-June by a 12 page full colour summary of the Vision (5), which was distributed to the whole town, through the local free newspaper. In August 2002, four companion reports were published: Scarborough 2002, an audit of the town today (6), A Diary of Contact, a diary of community animation and cultural audit (7), A Vision for Scarborough, the full report of the Community Planning Weekend (8), and The Scarborough Renaissance Charter (9). It seeks the origin ofthe parish system in the 7th century with the establishment of monasteria in accordance with the theory, the 'minster' hypothesis, that these were the minsters of the Middle Ages and the ancient parish churches of today. The territory of the monasterium, its parochia, was that of the secular royal vill, because kings granted these lands with the intention that monasteries provided pastoral care to the royal vill.
