The Commission is made up of two Senators, two Representatives, an employee from each of the legislative houses, the Commissioner of the Office of Administration, and four members appointed by the Governor. One of the first major undertakings of the Commission was to write and research a book that would illustrate the history and importance of the Capitol artwork. The book was published in 2011 by Bob Priddy and Jeffrey Ball and it contains background of the Capitol Decoration Committee’s choices, the artists who created the pieces, and the historical figures who inspired them. In late 2003 through early 2004, the Missouri State Capitol Commission and the Missouri State Archives put out a joint call to the public to submit original photographs of the Capitol and its artwork. The Archives collected 88 images from 22 participants. The submitted photos are historic and contemporary, interior and exterior views. Each donor signed a terms of use form, and those forms are also included. None of the images pertained to the artwork, and therefore no image from this series ended up in The Art of the Missouri Capitol. However, the series does serve as a valuable research collection. Of special interest are six original images of the damage done to Missouri’s second Capitol in 1911 from a fire. Reference copies of the images have been placed on the Z Drive. The processed and unprocessed images are also on DVD in the Vault. Container List See Excel spreadsheet for an item-by-item listing. A majority of the images that ended up in The Art of the Missouri Capitol are Grotjan’s. Archival copies of the original, unprocessed TIFFs are stored in the Vault. The images were too low resolution and ultimately were not used in the book. Archival copies of the original, unprocessed TIFFs are stored in the Vault.
