About Music Venue Trust Music Venue Trust is a registered charity which acts to protect, secure and improve Grassroots Music Venues in the UK. 1 Music Venue Trust is the representative body of the Music Venues Alliance 2, a network of over 500 Grassroots Music Venues in the UK. A full list of the 34 Music Venues Alliance Wales members is provided at Annex A. 2. Grassroots Music Venues in 2019 A. A nationally and internationally accepted definition of a Grassroots Music Venue (GMV) is provided at Annex B. This definition is now in wide usage, including by the UK, Scottish and Welsh Parliaments. 3 GMVs exhibit a specific set of social, cultural and economic attributes which are of special importance to communities, artists, audiences, and to the wider music industry. Across sixty years, this sector has played a vital research and nurturing role in the development of the careers of a succession of UK musicians, for example The Beatles (The Cavern, Liverpool) through The Clash (100 Club, London), The Undertones (The Casbah, Derry), Duran Duran (Rum Runner, Birmingham), Housemartins (Adelphi, Hull), Radiohead (Jericho Tavern, Oxford), Idlewild (Subway, Edinburgh).     ROB STRINGER, CEO SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, RECEIVES THE 2017 MUSIC INDUSTRY TRUSTS AWARD Rob Stringer, global CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, tonight became the 2017 recipient of the highly prestigious Music Industry Trusts Award. Stringer, one of the most well-regarded, respected and successful executives in the worldwide music business, joined the ranks of previous honourees including Roger Daltrey CBE, Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin, Sir George Martin, Simon Cowell, Michael Eavis CBE and Annie Lennox OBE. In a London ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by BBC radio and television personality Jo Whiley, Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers - an artist and band Stringer signed in 1991 as they were starting out – presented Rob with the award. During the evening, the audience enjoyed performances by Harry Styles, Jeff Lynne’s ELO, George Ezra and Camila Cabello, all chart-topping artists who have worked with the executive during his career. The esteem in which Stringer is held by the biggest names in music was further emphasised as guests viewed a unique tribute film, featuring contributions from such superstars as Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Adele, Celine Dion, John Legend, Pharrell, Solange and Sade. Lowri Evans – Corner of My Eye 27 September 2013 by Helen Gregory in Music Reviews For many people, the reputation of Wales as “the land of song” probably calls to mind either a capacity crowd belting out Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau at Cardiff Arms Park or a tuxedo-clad male voice choir emoting their way through Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech . And while I’ve no wish to denigrate either of these venerable musical institutions, the stereotypes do tend to obscure the reality of the flourishing and diverse music scene in Wales today. There are many fine musicians and singers who have made (and continue to make) valuable contributions to the music scene, not just in Welsh popular culture, but internationally – from Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey, through the Manic Street Preachers and Catatonia, to Lostprophets and Goldie Lookin’ Chain. Alongside this is a well-established tradition of solo singer/songwriters: Dafydd Iwan, Meic Stevens, Cate Le Bon and Cerys Matthews, for example. But nothing stays still forever and so it is that there are always new voices to be heard and Lowri Evans currently finds herself in this category, despite having been making music for most of her life with a string of record releases since 2005. On first listen, Lowri’s new album, Corner Of My Eye , is a relaxed and mellow affair, nevertheless it quickly gets under your skin. The summery feel and sweet harmonies of opening title track (and first single) Corner Of My Eye has already been played on BBC Radio 2, while Martin Simpson’s slide guitar (his first of three guest appearances) on Because Of You is judged to perfection.

    Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
