Besides capturing the school’s first NCAA championship seven years ago, his Bulldogs have won 21 or more games in six of the last nine seasons (including last winter) while finishing below the .500 mark just one time over that stretch. Overall, they’ve advanced to seven NCAA tournaments (2004, 2009, 2011,2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017), includ- ing the last three in a row, three NCAA Frozen Fours (2004, 2011 and 2017) and two NCHC Frozen Faceoff tourneys (2016 and 2017 when UMD won it all). Before UMD parted ways with the WCHA following the 2012-13 season, Sandelin had directed his troops to berths in seven of 11 Final Five playoff events.
