1 Arts and Culture

ExxonMobil recognizes the important role the arts play around the world in enriching, inspiring and educating audiences with diverse backgrounds. In 2003, worldwide contributions supporting arts and culture totaled almost $15.3 million, of which more than $13.4 million benefited communities in the U.S.

The corporation's support of ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theater continued in 2003 with a $10.0 million grant, and will conclude at the end of the 2004 program season.

Our U.S. Cultural Matching Gift Program encourages and assists employees and retirees in their personal giving to cultural institutions by providing a matching contribution. In 2003, employees and retirees donated more than $1.9 million to cultural organizations and ExxonMobil contributed more than $1.4 million through matching gifts.

5 Civic and Community Service

ExxonMobil looks for ways to help meet critical needs and enhance social and economic conditions in the communities where we operate. In 2003, contributions totaling $26.0 million were made directly to civic groups and community service projects around the world. Of this total, more than $12.0 million benefited communities outside the U.S.

Some countries where our business is growing are extremely poor, lacking in basic infrastructure. As we pursue our work, we continue to build or reinforce local capabilities to help improve the local economy. In Azerbaijan, we supported small business development programs and constructed resource centers in Bilasuvar refugee settlements. Our Chad-Cameroon Project brought the potential for significant economic growth in local economies through investments in roads and bridges that now connect local villages to outside markets. In Nigeria, ExxonMobil is involved in a three-year partnership with the private-sector group Growing Business Foundation to enhance economic development within rural communities by providing credit to small enterprises. It targets people living below the poverty level. In Sakhalin, Russia, we partnered with the US Agency for International Development to expand a micro-finance program providing business training and financing to those without collateral for conventional bank loans.

We realize our communities' future depends on adequately developing our youth so we continued support in 2003 for two signature programs that focus on youth employment. More than $635,000 was provided for the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program. Administered in more than 10 states across the U.S., this program provides college students with paid internships with non-profit organizations to instill a lasting appreciation for the importance of community service. The ExxonMobil Green Team Program continues to grow, with more than $790,000 going to support this summer employment program where youth in eight communities across the U.S. work on cleanup, beautification and construction projects in public parks and economically depressed neighborhoods.

Through formal Volunteer Involvement Programs in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, ExxonMobil employees and retirees contribute their time and talents to helping a wide range of community organizations. The company supports these efforts by donating funds directly to those organizations in which employees and retirees are actively involved. Volunteers in the United States donated more than 510,000 hours of their personal time in 2003. In recognition of their efforts, ExxonMobil contributed more than $7.2 million to more than 3,700 non-profit organizations where they volunteered.

15 Environment

Scientific research on important environmental issues, encouraging public discussion on environmental policy and preserving endangered species and habitats are a priority for ExxonMobil. In 2003, worldwide environmental contributions were $4.0 million, of which more than $2.7 million supported environmental programs in communities outside of the United States.

In 2003, we continued our support of worldwide tiger conservation and education through a $1.0 million contribution to the Save the Tiger Fund. The Fund, established as a joint effort by ExxonMobil and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, supports field research in tiger-range countries, anti-poaching efforts, initiatives to stop trade in tiger parts, and public education about the plight of the tiger. Since the Fund's establishment in 1995, total disbursements have exceeded $11 million.

Environmental initiatives during 2003 included increasing support for the Wildlife Habitat Council, commemorating the centenary of the Bermuda Biological Research Station with whom ExxonMobil has had a long-term relationship, national sponsorship of the America's Wetland - Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana and supporting the establishment of a national conservation database for private landowners.

19 Health

ExxonMobil focuses its support on significant global health issues because it is our belief that heath is a cornerstone to opportunity and achievement. In 2003, worldwide health contributions totaled more than $7.3 million, with more than $4.9 million benefiting communities outside the United States.

Continuing our emphasis on critical health issues outside the United States, ExxonMobil increased efforts to fight the spread of malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis primarily in sub- Saharan Africa to more than $2.3 million. These funds provided for the introduction of new long- lasting insecticide treated bednets, distribution of medicines, supported preventative education and new research, and developed a safe blood handling and training facilities in Nigeria and an infectious disease research center in Chad.

In the United States ExxonMobil remained committed to pediatric asthma, respiratory disease, new research and community health.

23 Higher Education

Our higher education initiatives focus on supporting programs that improve teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In addition, we support programs that seek to improve career opportunities for minorities and women. In 2003, ExxonMobil provided more than $26.5 million worldwide to colleges and universities, along with other organizations that support higher education. Of this amount, more than $23.4 million benefited higher education within the United States.

In support of the Undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program (STEM), in the U.S. we funded Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching), administered by the Mathematical Association of America. Funded by ExxonMobil, the Tom Joyner Foundation awarded ExxonMobil Foundation Scholarships to needy students attending historically black U. S. colleges and universities.

Internationally, in Angola, we funded the Agostinho Neto University to support geology classroom and library projects. In Canada, we made a new pledge to the University of Waterloo to fund their Centre for Education in Mathematics and Science. In Japan, we continued our funding of the General Sekiyu Research Foundation, established in 1981, to support energy related research. In Kazakhstan, we supported a Master of Arts program in Economics at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economic and Strategic Research to assist Kazakhstanis in obtaining leadership positions in business and government.

Through the U.S. Departmental Grants Program, $1.6 million was provided to more than 100 universities with a history of providing ExxonMobil with many of its employees. These funds are provided to academic departments and are unrestricted for educational use.

Our U.S. Educational Matching Gifts Programs encourage and assist employees and retirees in their personal giving to higher education by providing a matching contribution. In 2003, employees and retirees donated more than $8.6 million to more than 900 U.S. colleges and universities, the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the American Indian College Fund. ExxonMobil contributed more than $18.0 million in matching funds.

31 Pre-College Education

Our goal in supporting pre-college education is to impact learning in the K-12 classrooms. In 2003, worldwide contributions in support of this goal totaled more than $10.5 million, with more than $3.1 million benefiting communities outside the United States.

In the U.S., we continued our support to SECME, Inc. to support teacher training and programs that enable minority students to enter colleges, majoring in engineering and related fields. In support of mathematics initiatives, more than $325,000 was provided in support of our K-5 Mathematics Specialist Program. The program seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of mathematics teaching and learning from kindergarten through fifth grade by incorporating a mathematics specialist role with school districts.

Through the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program, 4,000 grants of $500 each were awarded to K-12 schools in the United States on behalf of Exxon and Mobil retail stores. These unrestricted grants were used by local schools to sponsor student programs, support school related extracurricular activities and purchase educational enrichment materials and equipment.

ExxonMobil and employee volunteers actively work with Junior Achievement worldwide to improve the economic knowledge of students. Grants to Junior Achievement International supported the development of a Global Business Ethics Curriculum and a regional office for the Middle East. In Canada, we continued our funding to Junior Achievement in support of youth business programs.

In Azerbaijan, ExxonMobil provided funding to develop and publish the first-ever children’s encyclopedia in the Azerbaijani Latin alphabet. In Qatar, our support to the Ministry of Education provides free education to children of Qatar and Arab nationals. In Saudi Arabia, our funding to the “Gifted and Talented” students program supported a summer program for science and math and the Girls Gifted Educational Center of Riyadh, the only center of its kind for girls in Saudi Arabia. In the United Kingdom, the ExxonMobil Growing Schools Links Program provided students with a variety of science, math and environmental education initiatives.

38 Public Information and Policy Research

As a science-based company, ExxonMobil is committed to supporting organizations that research significant domestic and foreign policy issues and promote informed discussion on issues of direct relevance to business and the company’s ongoing operations. In 2003, worldwide contributions for Public Information and Policy Research totaled $6.8 million.

We support programs that foster international understanding and engagement and help shape U.S. foreign policy. For example, we fund the Council on Foreign Relations to support constructive public and private discussions and to publish Foreign Affairs, a journal on global issues. Our involvement with the Asia Society, the Corporate Council on Africa, the Arab American Institute, Mosaic and other similar organizations, facilitates American understanding about societies and cultures of the world.

Organizations dedicated to researching free market solutions to public policy problems also receive support from ExxonMobil. For example, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research and the Competitive Enterprise Institute, both dedicated to strengthening the foundations of freedom and to the principles of free enterprise, receive our support. Additionally, through various memberships and affiliations, we support the promotion of business views and solutions on a wide range of global economic and business policy issues.

45 United Appeals and Workplace Giving Campaigns

ExxonMobil, together with its active and retired employees, donated $19.2 million to local United Way agencies and affiliated organizations across the United States and Canada in 2003. In the United States, the $11.4 million pledged by employees and retirees, together with the company's gift of $5.7 million, represents a 5% increase over 2002 workplace giving campaigns. This increase demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to investing in the local communities where our employees live and work.

Our commitment to the United Way extends well beyond financial support. For the past several years, ExxonMobil has participated in United Way “Day of Caring” volunteer events in many of the communities in which we operate. As a result of becoming involved with these organizations, many ExxonMobil employees now provide year-round volunteer support to United Way agencies. In addition, ExxonMobil employees serve on committees to help formulate strategies for community programs and provide time and expertise to help manage fundraising campaigns.
