Special Spring Assembly March 2018

Bluebell Cast: Monday 26th March Amber, Gold, Copper, Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise

1. People all around the world have celebrations in the Spring. Hindus celebrate the festival of Holi, Christians celebrate Easter, Jewish people celebrate Passover, celebrate and Buddhists celebrate Vesak.

2. Easter is the most important festival for Christians. They remember the last week of Jesus’ life. The Easter story is a sad story with a big surprise at the end. (Palm wavers stand up)

3. Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. Christians remember how Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey.  Song - Can you hear the donkey 4. Crowds of people greeted him. Some spread their cloaks on the ground, and others waved long branches of palm leaves. (Fade in music- HOSANNAH (Palm Sunday on screen) (Fade in Last Supper Song- quietly under readers…) 5. On Maundy Thursday, Christians remember the Last Supper. They think about the last meal that Jesus had with his friends. Mic to Jesus

6. “This is the last meal we will share together”

7. Jesus broke the bread and shared it. ……………………. (actions) then he poured the wine and passed it around. His friends were very sad.

8. :Later that night, when Jesus was praying in the garden, soldiers came and took him away. (soldiers come and take Jesus out of the hall)

9. On Good Friday, Christians go to church and hear how Jesus died on the cross. (Pause) (Pause……. and look at picture on screen) Christians believe that Jesus died because he loved them very much.

10. Some of Jesus’ friends took his body and placed it in a tomb. They thought that they would never see Jesus again. (3 friends stand up and look at the tomb on the screen-The angel comes and stands near by)

11. On Sunday when they returned to the tomb an amazing sight met their eyes. The tomb was empty. An angel who stood beside the tomb said… (Fade in Superstar music a she speaks then Jesus come, goes slowly up ramp and stands facing out…..Apostles stand and face Jesus….. Jesus raises his arms slowly).

12. “:Don’t be afraid. Jesus is not here. For he has risen from the dead…….And has come back to life ” Fade out music while reader reads….)

13.: Easter Sunday is a very happy day for Christians - they celebrate the day that Jesus came back to life. Song - Sing out an Easter song

Year One Vasikahi and Visit

Soora….Background music. Cd1 track 3 Reader1: Vaisakhi is a very special festival for Sikhs. Sikhs remember , who gave them their Golden Rules and asked them to become .  Slide showing Guru Gobind Singh.  Sikhs gathered at Anandpur Reader 2: Sikhs go to the Gurdwara on Vasakhi day. The orange cloth on the Nishan Sahib is changed on that day. When Year One went to the Gurdwara this term, they saw the Nishan Sahib. Amrit is made by the special 5 Sikhs called The . (The Panj Pyare step forward)  Slides of Panj Pyare  Prayers or shabads( Soora..) Reader 4: The Panj Pyare prepare the Amrit in front of the , the Sikh holy book. They add sugar to the water in a metal bowl. They stir the water while reading the Sikh prayers. One child to add sugar  Slides of Amrit ceremony  The Panj Pyare Reader5: The Panj Pyare gave The Amrit to the Guru and to other Sikhs. They were asked to wear the 5K’s all the time. Sikhs who take the Amrit are called the .  Slides of Guru giving Amrit  Khalsa Reader6: We learned about the 5K’s. They help Sikhs to remember the Golden rules the Guru gave them. Reader12 In February we went to the Gurdwara and we learned a lot about . Reader13 We went into the Prayer Hall and we saw the Guru Granth Sahib. This is the Sikh holy book. After that we shared some special food called Prashad. Reader14: Then we went into the Hall to eat Langar. Reader15: It was a very interesting visit. Reader 16 At Vaisakhi time people celebrate by dancing.
