Since ancient times the silver work and delicately crafted filigree jewellery produced in the city have enjoyed well-deserved fame for their artistic quality. Today the fact that jewellers continue to produce traditional pieces alongside new designs crafted with more modern techniques and new metals, has turned Cordoba into one of the most important centres for jewellery making in Europe. Leatherwork, an ancient craft whose origins can be traced back to the Arabic period, is also very much alive in Cordoba, where traditional techniques such as Cordoban (engraving polychrome pieces with patterns and designs) and Guadamecí (which incorporates decorative painting and gold and silver pieces to the Cor- doban work), are still widely used. A variety of these handcrafted objects can be found at the Municipal Souk (or market) where it is possible to watch the local craftsmen at work. The Andalusian Crafts Market, which has been recently inaugurated in Calle Manríquez, is an interpretation and exhibition centre dedicated to Andalusian crafts.

Entre esta comarca y las Sierras Subbéticas se localiza la Campiña Sur, cuyas principales armas de seducción son sus excelentes vinos que se adscriben a la Denominación de Origen Montilla-Moriles y que conforman la famosa Ruta del Vino, y la concentración del mayor número de reservas naturales de las Zonas Húmedas del Sur de Córdoba. Al norte de la provincia se sitúa la comarca más extensa, Los Pedroches. To the east of the Province is the area of the Upper Guadalquivir. Formed by eight municipalities, the river Guadalquivir and the Cardeña-Montoro Natural Park are the defining features of the landscape. Ideal for fishing, hunting, and bird watching, the area also has attractive monumental towns and villages such as Montoro and Villa del Río, with a wealth of possibili- ties for cultural tourism. The Sierra Mo- rena straddles the middle of the province crossing it from east to west and again is made up by 8 municipalities which in this case lie within the boundaries of two natural parks: the Sierra de Hornachuelos and the Cardeña-Montoro.
