A by-law for setting out the fire protection regulations of the District and prescribing penalties for non-compliance of the regulations.

The Trustees of Salt Spring Island Improvement District ENACT as FOLLOWS:

1. The appointment and duties of the Chief of the Fire Department shall be set by the Board of Trustees of the Salt Spring Island Improvement District and he shall serve until his resignation or termination of appointment as decided by the Trustees. 2. The Chief shall be responsible to the Trustees for the organization, discipline, and efficiency of the Fire Department, for the care and use of all Fire Department equip- ment, lands and buildings. The Chief shall appoint, through the Fireman's Associ- ation all Officers and Firemen, who will act on his instructions. The Chief is auth- orized to suspend any Volunteer Fireman for incompetence or breach of discipline. Such suspension shall be brought to the attention of the Firemen's Association as soon as possible.
