April 29 2019, Issue 650 Inside The Draft: Scott Siman The cottage industry around grading NFL draft classes rarely reaches consensus, but in the case of Nashville as 2019 host, it’s been an across-the-board A+. The city estimates attendance exceeding 600,000 over three days (4/25-27) – crushing the 2017 record of 250,000, viewership grew to a record 47.5 million, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called the city a “breathtaking backdrop.” Headline perfor- mances by Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley were among many of the event’s Music City integrations, and McGraw’s manager, Em.co President Scott Siman, has been involved since the beginning. McGraw called Siman while watching the 2017 draft, held in Philadelphia. “If we take what they’ve got and layer on what Nashville Scott Siman does with music, this could be amazing,” Siman recalls McGraw saying. “It wasn’t a pipe dream, but there were questions. Is it time? Are we ready? Tim likes to do things that present country music on a world stage – the Nobel Peace Prize, Live 8, the Oscars, Time 100. What he saw with the draft was, Pickin’ & Grinnin’: Columbia’s Tim McGraw at the NFL Draft let’s make Nashville the world stage. How do we do that?” in Nashville over the weekend. Read on... Clarke pointed out that Ford already has Alexa built in to their 2019 models, and Amazon Echo Auto is currently available for pre-order. With typical AM/FM radios and the concept of “preset” stations fading in utility, radio is faced with pressing questions. What is the first piece of audio listeners ask for in the car? More importantly, do they know how to find your station? Recent follow-ups with CRS smart speaker panelists clarify the challenges. “The voice revolution is the digital revolution, and younger audiences don’t think of ‘radio’ in the same way we do,” says Futuri SVP/Stra- tegic Marketing & Brand Development Zena Burns. “More and more, we are seeing that people think of radio more as a device instead of as the content we are creating.
