Old Dominion arose during the waning days of bro-country, a genre the band's five members were partially responsible for as authors of hits for Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Tyler Farr. As a band, Old Dominion were much softer and sweeter than the party-hearty legions of bro-country, straddling the line between contemporary pop and classic soft rock on their initial hits, 2015's "Break Up with Him" and 2016's "Snapback." Working with producer/songwriter Shane McAnally helped the quintet stay hip and fresh, leading to a series of Country Airplay number one singles in the last few years of the 2010s, including "Song for Another Time," "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart," "Written in the Sand," and "Make It Sweet." Comprising four Virginians -- Matt Ramsey (lead singer, guitar), Geoff Sprung (bass, vocals), Whit Sellers (drums), Brad Tursi (guitar, vocals) -- and Detroit's Trevor Rosen (guitar, keyboards, vocals), the band formed in Nashville. Boasting top-flight modern country songwriters in Ramsey, Rosen, and Tursi (the Band Perry, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Chris Young, and Craig Morgan have all tracked Old Dominion songs), the group soon attracted a lot of attention. Working in the studio with Shane McAnally and Ilya Toshinsky, Old Dominion released a self- titled debut EP in the fall of 2014. The single "Break Up with Him" earned notice early the following year, due in part to the band's Back to the Future-referencing video. In the summer of 2015, "Break Up with Him" went to number one on Billboard's Country Airplay charts, setting the stage for the November release of their debut album, Meat & Candy, also produced by McAnally. In March 2017, Old Dominion issued the single "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart," the first song from their sophomore album. Produced by McAnally, Happy Endings appeared in August 2017 and included the hit "Written in the Sand," their fifth consecutive platinum-certified single. The set topped the country charts and rose into the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. The following year, they issued the single "Make It Sweet" and embarked on a tour in anticipation of their eponymous third full-length album, which appeared in October 2019. As with their previous LP, Old Dominion occupied the top spot on the Country Albums chart and yielded another modest hit in "One Man Band." Founded in 2007, the Nashville group takes its moniker from the nickname of Virginia, where four of its members have roots. But it’s their background as hitmakers for other acts like Dierks Bentley (“Say You Do”) and Kenny Chesney (“Save it for a Rainy Day”) that led them to perform together at showcases, hoping to sell their songs to big-name act and labels. They eventually decided to go it their own way, releasing an eponymous EP in 2014 and their debut, Meat and Candy , on RCA a year later, with tunes that eschewed the popular tropes of Bro Country in favor of hard- rocking positivity tempered with tinges of sadness and vulnerability. On their 2019 self-titled third album, they dialed down the catchiness and good cheer, with darker moments like “My Heart is a Bar” and “One Man Band,” the lyrics of which call for listeners to join them in getting tattoos and trashing a hotel room—as much a send-up of their real-life, sensitive personalities as an invitation to let loose. Neal The 2015 top-ten country songs analyzed in this study are characterized by the various formats of their song form, harmonies, and lyrics. This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the structure and narratives in sixty-seven songs that summarizes the distinctive features within those domains of contemporary commercial country music. A detailed description of the norm along with identifiable trends emerges. The song form that features most prominently in this repertory includes a verse-chorus-bridge form with three iterations of the chorus, an intro and outro section, and instrumental sections immediately following each chorus. The top-ten country songs have varying degrees of departure from this typical model. Primary features of the harmonies of these top songs include the frequent use of a double-tonic complex, the absence of a 5-1 authentic cadence, the same chord progression throughout the verse, chorus, and bridge, and the use of only two chords throughout the song. Lyrical analyses show that 2015 songs are continuing the traditional themes about romantic attraction, love, heartache, good times and partying, home, family, nostalgia, religion, and inspiration, within the context of small-town country life that this genre has used for years.

Mr. Condoleon and Mr. Tornquist directed and choreographed an amazing show. The play was very funny and interesting. Annie was a very good choice. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
