Why Join the Blues Society of Omaha with Your Membership Donation? The Blues Society of Omaha, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 1998. We are an all-volunteer organization with over 800 dues-paying members. BSO’s mission is “Keepin’ the Blues Alive”. We are recognized as one of the top Blues Societies in the country. With the help of your tax-deductible donation we continue to promote blues music, blues musicians, and live music venues & events. Among our many projects and accomplishments are these: • BSO promotes musicians and venues by maintaining a comprehensive live music calendar on our website, omahablues.com. BSO also distributes free monthly news flyers with calendars to numerous public gathering spots to inform the general community of live music shows in the area. • BluesEd is a non-profit youth artist development program created and sponsored by Blues Society of Omaha. The BluesEd program began in 2001 to provide opportunities for young musicians to learn blues music in a series of workshops and to play with other students in a band format. Our BluesEd bands always are impressive and they have performed at some of the finest festivals & venues in and around Omaha. • The Blues Society of Omaha has hosted an annual Nebraska Blues Challenge competition for local bands since 2011. All of the participating bands are showcased in judged public events as they compete for a package of prizes and the honor of representing BSO at the International Blues Challenge competition held in Memphis. All of the winning Nebraska bands have gone on to receive national attention and acclaim while making BSO proud! • BSO produces and/or sponsors various music events throughout the year. • BSO is a contributor to and supporter of Playing With Fire, a series of free outdoor concerts held each summer in Omaha since 2004. • BSO provides support to The Zoo Bar, Lincoln’s legendary and award-winning blues venue. BSO is a sponsor of the annual ZooFest music festival. • In conjunction with Toy Drive for Pine Ridge, BSO hosts an annual toy drive and concert fundraiser for the children of Pine Ridge Reservation. • BSO regularly produces charitable events for musicians in need. As a member and donor, you are entitled to great membership benefits: • Free subscription to “Blues Notes”, our monthly newsletter that will keep you abreast of blues events in the area, blues CD reviews, and other articles of interest to blues connoisseurs! • E-blasts with late-breaking blues news. • Special pre-sale and discounted tickets to select events. • Discounts offered by generous local businesses. • Pride in belonging to a group dedicated to “Keepin’ The Blues Alive”!

MIKE MORGANThursday, Novemberand 7th the @ 6 pm CRAWL($10) •Stocks and COMEBACKBonds, Omaha TOUR Friday, Nov. 8th @ 5 pm ($10) • Zoo Bar, Lincoln burgh took Black Top owner Hammond Scott to a gig. Scott was so stunned by the band’s talent and originality that he signed them to the label immediately following the Jazz Fest appearance. Mike Morgan and The Crawl found a national audience with the release of their debut recording, Raw & Ready, in 1990. Backed up by extensive national and international touring, Mike Morgan and The Crawl continued to amaze their fans throughout the 1990s by releasing five highly regarded al- bums, Mighty Fine Dancin, Full Moon Over , Ain’t Wor- ried No More, Looky Here!, The Road and I Like The Way You Work It. Morgan even kept a high profile during some down time away from the band in 1994 by recording Let The Dogs Run, a highly acclaimed record that paired him with fellow Dallas guitarist Jim Suhler. From the Artist’s website and Severn Records website. “When guitarist Mike Morgan and his band, The Crawl, released their 1990 Black Top debut, Raw & Ready, the band quickly went from local phenomenon to na- tionally recognized blues stars. With each subsequent release, Morgan’s powerful guitar playing and The Crawl’s road-proven stage shows made for one of the SUNDAY blues’ great success stories. NOVEMBER 10TH Mike Morgan and The Crawl’s fiery stage shows drew rave reviews from critics and left fans open-mouthed in amazement. With a healthy dose of hard driving , a touch of -fat , and a splash of old-fashioned roots rock, Mike Morgan and The Crawl are back and ready to take their aggressive, innova- tive blues to fans from coast to coast. The Crawl kicks out some lethally propulsive rhythms behind Morgan’s barbwire-jagged guitar.” – Journal The history of Mike Morgan and the Crawl began in the late 80’s when Mike teamed up with vocalist Darrell Nu- lisch. Blues was experiencing a strong resurgence and the band quickly took off, becoming one of the Lone Star State’s premier blues acts. Nulisch’s stint was short-lived but Mike found the perfect replacement in Lee McBee, a fiery singer/ player from Kansas City. Between Morgan’s blis- tering guitar work and McBee’s captivating stage presence it was only a matter of time before The Crawl would get their big break. That break came in 1990 when Black Top Records signed them to a deal resulting in a ten year, eight CD relationship. He eventually found his way to Severn Re- cords and put out three great CDs with us: Texas Man, Live in Dallas and Stronger Every Day. As Mike and Lee’s collaboration proved popular with blues aficionados, appearances at the Benson & Hedges Blues Festival, the Dallas Blues Festival, the Atlantic City Blues Festival and the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival soon fol- lowed. Shortly before a performance at the Jazz & Heritage Festival, Morgan’s old pal Anson Funder- PAGE 6 BLUES NEWS • BLUES SOCIETY OF OMAHA

Walcott Medicine Show’ for the next album. “Our lead singer, Jason Davis, sounds re- markably like my brother, so it was kind of an easy transition for me into this new band. He’s really good at picking songs people really haven’t heard that much. We’re playing mostly covers, but not the ‘classic rock’ stuff, which keeps it kind of fresh. So we’re getting plenty of work.” Davis first came to the attention of music fans in Northwest Arkansas when he led a Lincoln, Neb., band, Baby Jason & the Spankers, who were frequently booked into the area and at the blues festivals in nearby Eureka Springs. When Davis met his future wife, Donna, while play- ing at Chelsea’s Corner club in Eureka Springs, it wasn’t long before he became an Arkansan. He now has a “day job” as manager of a Sound Warehouse store in Fayetteville. PAGE 12 BLUES NEWS • BLUES SOCIETY OF OMAHA
