Pre-Kindergarten Program at Candor Central School District The district has applied for a grant through NYS to create two full-day Pre-K classrooms. Each classroom will be in the elementary school and have a maximum of 18 students with one teacher and one teacher aide. The program is intended for families who live within the Candor School District boundaries. Children must be 4 by December 1st to be eligible. Children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten will not be considered for the program. The program is intended to start January 22nd and follow the district calendar through the end of the school year. The elementary school day hours will be followed (8:45am-3:15pm). Transportation will be provided for all four-year-olds. NYS immunization and physical requirements must be met. If the district does NOT receive funding through the grant, we are still committed to creating one full-day classroom with a maximum of 18 students. If you have questions or are interested in receiving registration materials, please call the elementary office at 659-3935. Registration paperwork must be turned in by November 30th. This does not guarantee your child a spot in the program. Thank you for welcoming me to the Candor Central School District community. It is my goal to work together with our students and their families to keep in good health throughout the school year. Cold/Flu season is now upon us. I will encourage our students to practice good hand hygiene, maintain good sleep habits, drink plenty of water, and eat a balanced diet. If children are ill please allow them adequate time to recover before returning to school. In addition to keeping themselves well, we want to help our students learn to prevent the spread of illness to others. Please talk to your children about good hygiene practices such as hand washing, covering during a cough and resting when they are not well. Our school policy asks the following in regards to illness and returning to school: Students are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reduction medications. Students are free from vomiting or loose stools for 24 hours after gastrointestinal illness. If your child’s illness distracts them from learning they may need more time to rest. Please contact the health office if you have questions or concerns. For the most up to date surveillance of this year’s flu data please refer to the Center for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov. Thank you and well wishes for a healthy fall, Nurse Jill Elementary School Nurse We have had a great start to the school year with new programs and opportunities for our students. We are seeing and hearing great things!

Tioga | NY Rising Community Reconstruction Plan Foreword Introduction In the span of approximately one year, beginning in August 2011, the State of New York experienced three extreme weather events. Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee, and Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on the lives of New Yorkers and their communities. These tragic disasters signaled that New Yorkers are living in a new reality defined by rising sea levels and extreme weather events that will occur with increased frequency and power. They also signaled that we need to rebuild our communities in a way that will mitigate against future risks and build increased resilience.
