Contributions to the Knowledge of the Lepidoptera Fauna (Insecta) of the Nature Forest Reserve “Cobileni” Sustainable use, protection of animal world and forest 286 management in the context of climate change CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEPIDOPTERA FAUNA (INSECTA) OF THE NATURE FOREST RESERVE “COBILENI” Cristina Tugulea Institute of Zoology, Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova [email protected] In the modern specialized literature there are few works on the fauna of Lepidoptera from different geographic regions of Moldova, which motivated us to study and moni- tor the current state of butterfly fauna in certain regions, such as reserve “Cobîleni”. The purpose of the work was to continue gathering data on knowledge and diver- sity of Lepidoptera fauna of the nature forest reserve “Cobîleni”. The analyzed data completes the scientific information from the latest literature. The reserve “Cobîleni” is a natural forest territory with an area of 33.5 ha. It be- longs to the Susleni forest area, located in the Orhei district on the right bank of the Dniester River. This area does not have impressive size, but is marked by a great diver- sity of species of Lepidoptera and the number of specimens collected. Entomological material that was used in the preparation of this work was collected in June-July of 2015. The Lepidoptera species were collected manually by “mowing” with entomological net, by using light trap with white and UV light and by the ordi- nary lamp. The species Saturnia pyri (Denis & Schiffermüller 1775) was collected us- ing ordinary lamp under which was bedding a white cloth. The species Macroglossum stellatarum (Linnaeus 1758) was observed during the nutrition of adult butterfly on various flower plants. The collected material was identified using the most recently published taxonomical keys. The Lepidoptera species found in “Cobîleni” belong to 9 families: Hesperiidae – 1 species, Pieridae – 4, Papilionidae – 1, Nymphalidae – 6, Lycaenidae – 5, Noctuidae – 20, Erebidae – 11, Saturniidae – 1 and Sphingidae – 8 species. The species Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus 1758) and Pararge aegeria (Linnaeus 1758) from Nymphalidae family and the species of the last four families mentioned above are cited for the first time in the fauna of “Cobîleni” reserve. The species Sphinx pinastri (Linnaeus 1758) is new for the entomological fauna of the Republic of Moldova (in the systematic list is highlighted with the bold). In bib- liographic sources is cited only once by E. Miller, N. Zubovschi and A. Ruscinschi in 1929, but the only specimen was collected in the vicinity of Hotin city, territory that does not belong at present to Republic of Moldova. However, this species is found in Ukrainian fauna but lacking in the Romanian. During the research were collected eight specimens of this species. Larvae of some species are par- ticularly harmful to agricultural and silvicultural regions worldwide. Consequently, for years intense efforts have been carried out to control them through chemical, biological, and cultural methods (LIBURD et al. 2000; HOBALLAH et al. 2004; TOPRAK & GÜRKAN 2005). In the field, noctuid control is often carried out by parasitoid wasps (CHO et al. 2006). Ichneumonids are one of the most prevalent parasitoid groups of noctuids but they also parasitize on other many Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera and Araneae (KASPARYAN 1981; FITTON et al. 1987, 1988; GAULD & BOLTON 1988; WAHL 1993; GEORGIEV & KOLAROV 1999).

  • Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) in Turkey
    J. Entomol. Res. Soc., 18(2): 33-60, 2016 ISSN:1302-0250 Biogeography and Host Evaluation of the Subfamily Pimplinae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) in Turkey Saliha ÇORUH Atatürk University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Protection, 25240 Erzurum, TURKEY e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This study was carried out to determine the faunistic, ecological, zoogeographical and hosts situation of the subfamily Pimplinae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) in Turkey. As a result of the study, 100 species belonging to 30 genera and three tribes were identified. These samples are added into literature examining the whole Turkey in the last two decade. For each species, individual diversity, biogeographical and zoogeographical regions, altitudinal distribution, seasonal dynamics, available host data, plants visited by adults and first record of the species from for Turkey are summarised. Key words: Ichneumonidae, Pimplinae, new records, Turkey, zoogeographical, characterization. INTRODUCTION Ichneumonidae is the biggest hymenopteran family including 1.579 genera and 24.281 described species (Yu et al., 2012). However, it should be emphasized that every year many new species are added to this number. The subfamily Pimplinae is biologically the most diverse, and probably the most extensively studied, within the Ichneumonidae (Fitton et al., 1988). Worldwide the subfamily comprises about 78 genera and 1685 species (Yu et al., 2012). This group is a moderately large group but, because it includes several big, strikingly-coloured or common species, it is often numerically the best represented subfamily in general collections of lchneumonidae (Fitton et al., 1988). The majority of pimplines are ectoparasitoids of immature Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera or Arachnida, while some are pseudo-parasitoids of spider egg sacs and one group are endoparasitoids in endopterygote pupae and prepupae.

Biology Department, Faculty of the Science and Arts, 22030 Edirne, Turkey * Corresponding authors: S. Yurtserver, E-mail: [email protected], Z. Oykar, E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The moth species were investigated in the four distinct types of habitat — coniferous, beech, oak forests and shrubs including 57 different sites — of Western Black Sea Region in Turkey between the years of 2001 and 2004. A total of 207 Lepidoptera species belonging to 164 genera and 11 families was determined. Results showed that the index of diversity in the coniferous habitats (H=0.5592) was significantly higher than those of beech (H=0.3561) and oak forests (H=0.4238), but was not significantly different than those of shrubs (H=0.4921). The pooled species numbers of the coniferous habitats were the highest among the four types of habitat (P<0.001). Moreover, the pooled number of species in the Noctuidae and Geometridae families were significantly higher (P<0.001) than those found in the other Lepidoptera families in the study area. The pooled numbers of the species tended to decrease from June to September during the study months. Key words: Moth, Lepidoptera, Heterocera, diversity, Western Black Sea Region, Turkey. Introduction Some of the later taxonomical studies have been performed in South-Western (Wehrli Due to its distinctive zoogeography and 1932, 1934), Eastern (Wagner 1929, 1930, habitat diversity, Turkey has been one of 1931), and Central Anatolia (Zukowsky the significant survey areas for many 1937, 1938, 1941).

  • On the Presence of Valerietta Niphopasta and Valerietta Hreblayi Nom
On the presence of Valerietta niphopasta and Valerietta hreblayi nom. nov. in Europe and of Chersotis andereggii on the Balkan Peninsula (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Stoyan Beshkov & Alexander Slivov Abstract. Valerietta niphopasta (Hampson, 1906) (= Valerietta bulgarica (Drenovsky, 1953) syn. nov.) and Valerietta hreblayi Beshkov nom. nov. (= Valerietta bulgarica sensu Hreblay, 1992, junior secondary homonym) are two distinct taxa, both occurring in Bulgaria. V. niphopasta is known in Europe only from SW Bulgaria, Kresna Gorge, published and illustrated before from there as "Crypsedra niphopasta bulgarica Dren." and from Vitosha Mnt., from where was described Crypsedra niphopasta bulgarica Drenovsky, 1953 syn. nov. The only known localities in Europe for Valerietta hreblayi are the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, "Arkutino" and its surroundings south of Bourgas town, from where the neotype of Valerietta bulgarica was designed and the last taxon was redescribed. In fact the redescription of V. bulgarica sensu Hreblay, 1992 is a description of a new species-group taxon. A review of both taxa is given and the European representatives of the genus Valerietta with their genitalia, including the everted vesica are illustrated. Chersotis andereggii (Boisduval, [1837]) is known to occur with certainty on the Balkan Peninsula. Proved localities in SW Bulgaria are: S. Pirin mnt. and E. Rila mnt. The male genitalia, including the everted vesica, are illustrated here.
