1. Hang the covered ring on the hook with the tail ends facing down. Then take all 6 of the 4. 5 metre lengths of cord, find the middle section and through the ring so that they hang evenly on each side.

2. Hold the lengths you are wrapping together and take one of your short 75cm lengths as wrapping cord.

3. Hold the shorter end of cord in your left hand and make a loop.

4. Holding the loop and shorter tail of yarn in place, wrap the cord around the lengths and loop, working around in a spiral down to the bottom of the loop.

5. Pass the end you have been wrapping around the ends and thread through the loop at the bottom.

6. Pull the end you started with upwards, catching the finished end up inside the wrap knot this will secure the ends under the knot.

Be sure NOT to pull this end all the way through!

Trim the unwanted ends. You now have a wrap knot. Square knot https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/interests/craft/crafts-to-keep-busy/macrame-plant-hanger 8/20 4/15/2020 My WI | Macramé Plant Hanger

1. Divide the 12 ends into 3 sections of 4. Take one of the 3 divided sections of 4 cords, make 8 Square knots, alternating between the left and right to make a total of 8 on each side, so 16 moves. This section should measure approximately 10cm.

2. This knot uses 4 strands. Take the cord on the right and pass over the middle 2 cords and under the left hand cord.

3. Then take the left hand cord, pass under the middle 2 and pull through the loop on the right you have just made. Pull both strands outwards horizontally to tighten knot.

4. Mirror the last 2 moves - pass the left hand strand over the middle 2 and under the right hand cord.

5. Pass the right hand strands behind the middle 2 and pull through the loop on the left. This completes 1 square knot.

6. Repeat these 8 Square knots (16 movements) on the other two sections of cord.

7. Now take outside cords and place in the middle. Use what were the two middle cords as the outside ones. This forms a nice cross pattern.

8. Take one section and start 4cm down from the bottom of the last square knot. Half square knot Again, doing 16 knots which should measure 10cm.

1. This knot uses 4 strands but this time instead of mirroring the movements you repeat the same movement on the same side. https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/interests/craft/crafts-to-keep-busy/macrame-plant-hanger 12/20 4/15/2020 My WI | Macramé Plant Hanger

2. Take the strand on the right and pass over the middle 2 and under the left hand strand repeat 16 times or when work measures 10cm. This creates a lovely twisted knot.

3. Repeat steps on other two sections.

4. Now cross the outside into the middle and 4cm down from the Half square knot repeat the last two patterns Square knot (10cm) , cross over threads (4cm) and the last half square knot (10cm). Josephine knot

3. Pinch the middle set of strands in the loop from the right hand set as pictured.

4. Take the right section and pass over top of the left hand section and under, pulling through as pictured.

5. Holding the knot in place with your left hand, pull on the loop in your right hand. Keep pulling through the strands until the end in your right hand is all the way through.

6.Once through, gently pull to tighten off your knot and tease it into shape. This is what your completed Josephine knot should look like.

7. Repeat on other two sections. Cradle

1. Take 2 cords on the right of 1 group and from the adjacent group take the 2 on the left and 8cm down create your last set of Josephine knots.

2. Place your pot inside the hanger to assess where to make your final Wrap knot.

3. Approximately 6-8cm under the 3 final Josephine knots make your final Wrap knot approx. 4cm long (this can be adjusted to fit your pot). Cut and trim.

5. For the tassle: if using a knitted cord, randomly knotting the ends gives a nice finish. Knot ends with a mixture of 1– 6 knots and lengths between 20cm and 24cm for a random finish to the fringing. Cut any excess lengths off 2cm below the last knot.
