Con el Force Touch y el 3D Touch, Huawei y Apple quieren ser protagonistas de la próxima revolución en el uso del smartphone. La nueva tecnología de pantallas táctiles no solo reconoce los toques bidimensionales sino que además es capaz de reconocer la profundidad con la que se presiona la pantalla, pero ¿qué nos aporta a los usuarios esta nueva tecnología? El Force Touch lo vimos por primera vez sobre una pantalla en el Apple Watch. La pantalla del smartwatch de los de Cupertino es capaz de reconocer dos niveles diferentes de presión en los toques sobre su pantalla y por lo tanto se pueden desencadenar diferentes acciones. Apple pretendió ampliar las alternativas para las opciones de uso sobre una pequeña pantalla. Después de esta fase piloto en el Apple Watch con la tecnología Force Touch, Apple se propuso implementarla también en su nueva gama de smartphones. Y en la carrera por la innovación Huawei se le adelantó a Apple presentando el primer smartphone con tecnología Force Touch durante la IFA 2015 a principios de septiembre, el Mate S. A finales de septiembre Apple trajo sus nuevos iPhone 6s con 3D Touch, los cuales se pueden adquirir ya en varios países, mientras que el modelo de Mate S con Force Touch no estará disponible para su venta hasta finales de este año Después de esta fase piloto en el Apple Watch con la tecnología Force Touch, Apple se propuso implementarla también en su nueva gama de smartphones. Cómo funciona el Force Touch y el 3D Touch El uso del Force Touch y del 3D Tocuh es muy parecido al que otorga el sistema de presión del S Pen el en Galaxy Note 5, con una clara diferencia y es que en este caso la pantalla es la que recibe la presión en lugar del S Pen. Por lo tanto la pantalla necesita un panel especial capaz de recibir la presión con la que se está presionando la pantalla del Smartphone. De acuerdo con Huawei, la pantalla Force Touch del Mate S es capaz de percibir la diferencia entre 1 y 4 newtons de presión. Apple por su parte no aporta ninguna información sobre como de sensible es su pantalla 3D Touch. La incorporación de una capa que mide la presión hace que el espesor del dispositivo aumente. El modelo del Mate S con Force Touch es aproximadamente 0,5 mm más grueso que el modelo con pantalla capacitiva normal y en el caso del iPhones 0,2 mm más. ¿Qué funciones nuevas aporta? Si has tenido la oportunidad de usar un Note 4 o Note 5 te habrás dado cuenta que la diferente presión solo sirve para dibujar o tomar notas, mucho más no se puede hacer con el S Pen. El Force Touch y el 3D Touch suponen un verdadero salto adelante. En el Mate S por ejemplo se puede hacer zoom en una foto de la galería más o menos dependiendo de la presión que ejerzas sobre la pantalla o esconder los controles de navegación y utilizarlos en cualquier pantalla pulsando profundamente. Está claro que esta función no va a ser muy usada en la vida cotidiana además de tener una precisión cuestionable. Más bien es una buena demostración de tecnología. La implementación en el sistema operativo Una pantalla sensible a la presión no hace nada si el sistema operativo y las aplicaciones no implementan y aprovechas las posibilidades que esta otorga. Apple en este sentido tiene una buena ventaja ya que producen tanto el hardware como el sistema operativo y aportan las librerías necesarias para que los desarrolladores puedan introducir esta interacción en sus aplicaciones. De hecho hasta los toques que puedes usar con los nuevos iPhones tienen ya hasta nombre Peek y Pop, y ambos los puedes usar en el sistema y las aplicaciones que lo implementen. Huawei tiene una desventaja en este aspecto ya que el sistema operativo lo desarrolla Google sin tener en cuenta el hardware que el Mate S incorpora actualmente. Gran parte del software que controla el Force Touch está desarrollado por Huawei y no se incorpora en las APIs para desarrollar aplicaciones para Android. Por lo tanto el Force Touch del Mate S funciona en el sistema, ya que Huawei puede modificarlo, y en las aplicaciones que Huawei introduce de serie en el dispositivo, pero el resto de las aplicaciones se quedan fuera de este juego, a menos que Huawei prepare las APIs necesarias para su control. Lo cierto es que Android ya incorpora desde 2009 con Eclair algunas funciones para detectar la presión ejercida sobre una pantalla o un pad, como seguro corroboran los grandes fans de Android, pero no ha sido utilizado hasta ahora. Justo cuando Apple también ha desarollado y ha puesto en práctica esta tecnología. ¿Y qué nos depara el futuro? ¿Se extenderá esta tecnología por el resto de Smartphones? Qué el Force Touch va a formar parte del futuro del Smartphone es algo seguro, y el año que viene veremos más dispositivos con esta tecnología. He podido jugar un poco con pantallas Force Touch y no veo todavía una utilidad imprescindible, por el momento me mantengo un poco escéptico, no es nada que no se pueda hacer con un toque prolongado. Si se implementa bien y se hace verdaderamente una tecnología útil se convertirá en nuestro día a día. Al igual que paso con el sensor de huella dactilar, Apple lo incluyó en sus dispositivos y ahora está en toda la gama alta de Smartphones. Con el Force Touch puede pasar lo mismo, pero si al usuario final no le resulta del todo útil, no es muy intuitivo o difícil de usar y al final supone un extra de precio va a caer en el olvido como lo hizo el botón capacitivo con la lupa que tenía la primera generación de Smartphones Android. In the proposed technique, cursor mode is started by swip- cursor ing from the bezel. Touch-down and touch-up events occur at the cursor position when users increase and decrease touch pressure, respectively. Since touch-down and touch-up event triggers are increase touch pressure decrease dierent but easily performed by just adjusting the touch pressure touch pressure of the thumb from low to high or vice versa, the user can perform single-touch gestures at the cursor position with the thumb. To in- vestigate the performance of the proposed technique, we conducted a pilot study; the results showed that the proposed technique is promising for one-handed interaction technique.
