UNIVERZITA KARLOVA V PRAZE FAKULTA SOCIÁLNÍCH VĚD Institut komunikačních studií a žurnalistiky Petra Dvořáková Reflexe podmínek pro novináře v Maroku Bakalářská práce Praha 2017 Autor práce: Petra Dvořáková Vedoucí práce: PhDr. Václav Moravec, PhD. Rok obhajoby: 2017 Bibliografický záznam DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Petra. Reflexe podmínek pro novináře v Maroku. Praha, 2017. 80 s. Bakalářská práce. Univerzita Karlova. Spíše než kvantitativní analýzou je praktická část kvalitativním pestrým vzorkem prezentujícím náhled novinářů z oficiálních státních médií i z nezávislých online platforem. Nevynechávám ani problematiku vyhošťování zahraničních reportérů a představuji proto dva příběhy zahraničních novinářů. Snažila jsem se využít osobní zkušenosti s pobytem v Maroku a s marockou společností a orámovat práci historicko-společenským kontextem. V závěru porovnávám východiska teoretické a praktické části. Abstract The aim of this thesis is to describe the current conditions for journalists in Morocco based on the theoretical background of journalism in the country as well as personal interviews with journalists. -

Media Habits of Immigrants: TV Viewing Habits of Immigrants in Rotterdam
Media Habits of Immigrants: TV Viewing Habits of Immigrants in Rotterdam Student name: Sabina Gitman Students number: 452610 e-mail address: [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. Jeremiah Spence Second reader: Dr. Ju-Sung (Jay) Lee Date of deadline: 26 June Word count: 27 191 Media & Business Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam Master’s Thesis June 2017 1 Media Habits of Immigrants: TV Viewing Habits of Immigrants in Rotterdam ABSTRACT Rotterdam is one of the most multicultural cities of the Netherlands. People from 175 nationalities live in this city (City of Rotterdam, 2016). Immigrants form a substantial part of the population in Rotterdam (CBS, 2017). Within the media field, immigrants are a large consumer group (Bink, 2002; CBS, 2017; Butter and Önce, 2010). However, the media needs of immigrants can vary significantly: Because of their diverse cultural backgrounds what immigrants expect from media can differ from the expectations of local people (Anjum & Michele, 2014; Bakoy, 2006; Bink, 2002; Butter and Önce, 2010; Sun & Sinclair, 2014). Therefore, to provide appropriate media content, it is important to understand the media consumption of immigrants more deeply. Additionally, studies on media habits can help form an understanding of the dynamics of acculturation and assist with the integration process into society (Walker, 1999; Reichenberg, 2016). This thesis aims to investigate the media consumption of immigrants living in Rotterdam, to be precise, their TV viewing habits. The research question set for this study is as follows: What are the media consumption habits of immigrants in Rotterdam while watching television via cable, IP-TV, satellite and the Internet? Moreover, there are two main directions for this research. -

Hilgendorf Supervisor Professor, Linguistics Dean Mellow Committee Member Associate Professor, Linguistics Elizabeth Martin Committee Member Professor, World Languages and Literatures California State University, San Bernardino Christian Guilbault Examiner Associate Professor, French Margie Berns External Examiner Professor, Linguistics Purdue University ii Abstract Research using Kachru’s (1984) World Englishes theoretical framework and Three Circles model has produced a wealth of knowledge about the spread and functions of English to speech communities around the world. However, there is a recognition that disproportionate attention has been accorded across these spheres. The most compelling argument outlining this gap in the literature was offered by Berns (2005) over a decade ago and was reiterated by Elyas and Mahboob (2020) just recently. Berns (2005: 85) concluded that while the bulk of academic research has focused on the use of English in Inner and Outer Circle contexts, the Expanding Circle remains mostly overlooked. -
