For 100 consecutive days, beginning in mid-March, Governor Cuomo held a news conference that provided much needed factual information, details of how the State was addressing the pandemic, and reassurance that we are “NY Strong”. He shared with us his personal family stories, even named a law protecting the elderly, Matilda’s Law, after his 87 year old mother. We got to know the names of his daughters, and his trials as a single parent in raising them. Andrew Cuomo, in my eyes, depicted himself not as the politician we have all come to know, for better or for worse, but as a human being faced with the daunting task of a pandemic that involved life and death.

Tony Mc- Dade and countless other innocent black men and women, our organization wanted to take George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Eric Garner. Sandra Bland. These are names we all the time to reflect on those who have lost their lives to police brutality, systemic racism and know, but what about the names we don’t know? The Black Lives Matter Movement is a fight hateful violence. The country is in pain, the black community is in pain, our school commu- not just for only those names we know, but for every single black person who is a victim to a nity is in pain, and anybody with any sort of humanity or decency is and should be in pain system designed to dehumanize and degrade black lives.
