Celebrating the Magna Charta – April 14, 2012 - DC The 2012 Reception and Dinner of the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons will be held, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the University Club, 1135-16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. “Magna Carta: Foundation of Liberty, Protector of Democracy” Professor Sir Robert M. Worcester, KBE, DL chairs the Magna Carta 2015 800th Anniversary Committee. He co-chaired the Jamestown 400th Commemoration British Committee. He has a life-long interest in Magna Carta and when he first visited London as a serving officer in the US Army his first morning there he went to see the original Magna Carta at the British Museum and when he moved to England in 1969, the first weekend took his family to Runnymede. In 2005, Sir Robert Worcester was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his outstanding services to political, social and economic research and for his contribution to government policy and programmes. A native of Kansas City, Sir Robert Worcester graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955 and worked for McKinsey & Company and was CFO of Opinion Research Corporation before coming to Britain in 1969 to found MORI, a market and opinion research company and in 2004 sold it to Ipsos, and is now the largest survey research company in Britain. He is Britain’s best known pollster, frequently commenting on UK and US elections. Sir Robert Worcester was appointed Chancellor of the University of Kent on 13 July 2006. He is a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation, Trustee of the Magna Carta Trust, President and chair the Advisory Council of the Institute for Business Ethics and one of Her Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants. -

C2014/3 THE UNIVERSITY OF KENT COURT Minutes of the Forty Eighth Annual General Meeting held on 24 January 2014 The list of members present at the meeting and submitting their apologies for absence is given in Annex A to these Minutes (appended). 420 WELCOME The Chair of Council, John Simmonds, in the absence of a Chancellor welcomed all those present to the 2014 Annual General Meeting of the University’s Court. The Chair extended an especially warm welcome to the following: Julian Brazier, Member of Parliament for Canterbury Sir Roger Gale, Member of Parliament for Thanet North Sir Robert Worcester, former Chancellor of the University The Chair congratulated Mary Berg on the award of an MBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours for services to education, heritage and charity. The Chair introduced the officers who were to speak to the annual reports for the Court’s meeting: Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow, Vice-Chancellor Tony Quigley, Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee 421 MEMBERSHIP AND BUSINESS OF THE COURT The Court noted Papers CT2014/1, Ordinance 9 concerning the Court’s membership and business, and CT2014/2, its current membership. 422 MINUTES OF THE COURT’S MEETING ON 25 JANUARY 2013 The Minutes of the Forty Seventh Annual General Meeting held on 25 January 2013 were confirmed. 423 APPOINTMENT OF A CHANCELLOR The Chair reported that special meetings of the Senate and the Council had been held earlier in the day to consider a recommendation from a Joint Committee of Senate and Council for the appointment of a new Chancellor of the University of Kent and that, after consideration of the views of Senate, the Council had unanimously agreed to appoint Dr Gavin Esler as the University’s sixth Chancellor. -

Presentation of the Annual Review The Vice-Chancellor and President presented the Annual Review for 2015/2016 and highlights of the University’s activities. Marita Carballo, UK conference, sharing the conference site, as every two years, with the American Publications Chair Association for Public Opinion Research. The conference had 79 registered Mr. Nick Moon, UK attendants, 71 papers in the program, and 116 authors and co-authors, 78 of Professional Standards Committee Chair them males (67%) and 38 females (33%). About 72 of the authors are affiliated Prof. Patricia Moy, USA to an American institution (62%), six are based in Mexico, five in Australia, five General Secretary in Spain and other five in the United Kingdom. A total number of 23 countries Prof. Dr. Allan L. McCutcheon, USA were represented at the conference, based on the participants’ institutional Conference Committee Chair Prof. Patricia Moy, USA affiliation. This time, we had the opportunity to welcome 25 new WAPOR Media Relations Committee Chair members. Mr. Alejandro Moreno, Mexico Membership Committee Chair Prof. Dr. Connie de Boer, Netherlands Once again, I would like to thank Pippa Norris, the McGuire Lecturer in ESOMAR Liaison Comparative Politics at Harvard’s John F.
