The trip is part of their overall prize for winning the Institute of Physics’ ‘Best Overall Student Society’ Competition 2008. Affiliated with Kent Union, the Space Society has over 60 members drawn from a broad range of academic subject areas. For the competition, 4 of the committee had to give a presentation about the achievements of the society and answer questions to an audience of student members of the IOP. Worcester, KBE, DL chairs the Magna Carta 2015 800th Anniversary Committee. He co-chaired the Jamestown 400th Commemoration British Committee. He has a life-long interest in Magna Carta and when he first visited London as a serving officer in the US Army his first morning there he went to see the original Magna Carta at the British Museum and when he moved to England in 1969, the first weekend took his family to Runnymede. In 2005, Sir Robert Worcester was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his outstanding services to political, social and economic research and for his contribution to government policy and programmes. A native of Kansas City, Sir Robert Worcester graduated from the University of Kansas in 1955 and worked for McKinsey & Company and was CFO of Opinion Research Corporation before coming to Britain in 1969 to found MORI, a market and opinion research company and in 2004 sold it to Ipsos, and is now the largest survey research company in Britain. He is Britain’s best known pollster, frequently commenting on UK and US elections. Sir Robert Worcester was appointed Chancellor of the University of Kent on 13 July 2006. He is a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation, Trustee of the Magna Carta Trust, President and chair the Advisory Council of the Institute for Business Ethics and one of Her Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants.

    Political Science Department Newsletter November 2009 Greetings from the department Chair: Welcome to the 2009 edition of the KU Political Science department newsletter! There is much activity to report as 2009 draws to a close. Departmental faculty have been active on the research front (see Faculty Research Updates). They have also been active on other fronts as well, in keeping with important developments at the university. For example: Professor Paul Johnson , who is serving as our Director of Graduate Studies, has also been appointed as Associate Director of the Center for Research Methods and Data Analysis , a unit newly created by KU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to provide resources, support, and educational opportunities for social and behavioral scientists at KU. The unit, directed by Dept. of Psychology professor Todd Little, will draw together expert methodologists, statisticians and applied researchers from across KU -- offering access to the latest research tools and methods both to help support faculty research programs and to provide educational opportunities for students. Professor Dorothy Daley serves on the steering committee for the Center. Professor Juliet Kaarbo has been appointed Director of Faculty Programs for the university’s Office of International Programs. She is responsible for administering a variety of faculty development programs aimed to expand the international dimension of teaching and research at KU. A number of our faculty are also involved in the Center for Global and International Studies (CGIS) – a unit newly created by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to promote interdisciplinary research, teaching and service on global, transnational and international topics.
