What is The Equality Project? What does this organization do? We are a feminist organization pushing for social equity at St. Norbert. We work to educate our peers and ourselves on issues of intersectional feminism such as Title IX policy on campuses, reproductive rights, racial justice, socioeconomic equity, etc.

What is the best part about being in this organization? It is really powerful to work with this group of empowered humans pushing for social change.

SNC Eco Club | facebook.com What is your position in this organization? President

Why did you become involved with The Equality Project? I joined the Equality Project my first year because the president, Anna Huck, invited me to a meeting. I started working on the Title IX Letter and have been involved ever since! It has been really amazing to see the concrete changes we’ve been able to make on campus.

Why is this organization important on St. Norbert’s campus? We have and will continue to hold the Administration accountable to the needs of the Student Body, particularly the needs of marginalized students.

Anna: “Hamilton”

Is “Hamilton” a basic response to this question? Yes. Oh well. I am not big into musicals or plays, but I appreciate “Hamilton” because of how non-traditional it is. I was hugely obsessed with the musical in high school, and it honestly helped me through parts of the AP U.S. History and AP Government exam. My friends and I were those obnoxious people who sang parts of the musical at random times and probably annoyed everyone around us.

My obsession with “Hamilton” was rekindled when they toured in Appleton last year. I was lucky enough to see it twice, once with my mom and once with my best friend. I am not embarrassed to admit that I cried through most of the performance both times. How could I not? It is emotional.

My best friend, Ali, is a bass performance major at Lawrence University in Appleton, and one of her fellow bass players from Lawrence got to sit in the pit with the musicians at the show Ali and I went to. When Ali told her we were there, we got to stay after and get a tour of the stage and backstage area from the show’s bass player. It was honestly surreal and made the whole experience Above: A scene from “My Shot” in “Hamilton” | consequenceof- that much better. sound.net

This obsession was once again reinforced when “Hamilton” was released on Disney+ with the original cast this past summer. I have watched it countless times with different groups of friends, and I truly love the idea of getting to see a Broadway show from the comfort of my couch.

Of course, it is nearly impossible to pick a favorite song from the musical, but a some of my favor- ites are “My Shot,” “Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)” “Cabinet Battle #1,” “One Last Time” and “Burn.”

Not only do I appreciate the story of “Hamilton,” but I also appreciate the new meaning the musical takes on with the diversity of the cast. I think it is incredible and the way Lin Manuel-Miranda tells Hamilton, Eliza, and Burr’s stories is quite unlike anything I have seen before.

Growing up, I loved going to the theatre. I haven’t grown out of this love now that I’m older, though I no longer participate. I’ve seen everything from big Broadway shows like “Hamilton” to hometown productions of “Little Women.” My favorite musical is StarKid Productions’ “Starship”.

StarKid Productions is a musical theatre group that was founded at University of Michigan in 2009 by four college students. The show that helped them gain Internet fame was “A Very Potter Musi- Sports Views are Down cal.” Since graduating college, the group is still together and continues to create new content. While you can purchase physical copies of their original musicals, they also post all of them to YouTube. SARA DILLION | SPORTS COLUMNIST This is a great way for lower income theatre fans to see shows, as plays can be quite expensive.

“Starship” is the fourth musical created by Team StarKid. The storyline follows an insect-like alien named Bug. He feels different from all the other aliens in his hive, and longs to be a Starship Ranger. The Starship Rangers are a group of humans that are essentially astronauts, exploring space and charting new territories. Their ship crash landed on Bug’s planet many years ago, and all the passengers died or were killed. A new group of Rangers comes to Bug’s planet to rescue one of their crewmates, February. Bug eventually becomes a Starship Ranger and is the link between alien and human communication. Above: An animated rendering of the musical “Starship” | dis- cogs.com “Starship” uses props very creatively. Because they were college students at the time this was re- leased, their budget was obviously not very large. While you can tell that the set is not expensive, it is still well made. All the aliens are portrayed using large puppets. You might think it would distract from the dialogue, but it actually helps submerge the viewer into the story more thoroughly.

The themes explored in this musical are very interesting. With the Rangers coming to Bug’s planet, you see how they are violent colonizers. That’s not a viewpoint often taken, but is very relevant in American history. We also see one of the main characters, Commander Up, deal with PTSD-like symptoms after fighting in the Robot-Human War. We see Bug struggle with feeling out of place in a society where everyone has a specific purpose in life, which can be read as a metaphor for grow- ing up queer. We see the robot Mega-Girl fall in mutual love with Tootsie Noodles, even though robots allegedly have no emotions. Despite all these difficult topics, “Starship” remains light and comedic, without making fun of these real issues.

If you like theatre but cannot afford to go to many shows, try watching some Team StarKid musi- cals! “Starship” is a great place to start.
