  • Mongolia MODERATE ADVANCEMENT
Mongolia MODERATE ADVANCEMENT In 2013, Mongolia made a moderate advancement in efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labor. In July, the Mongolia National Statistics Office officially released the Mongolia National Child Labor Survey Report. The Government established an Anti-Trafficking Sub-Council within the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), and Mongolia’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) conducted trainings on trafficking and forced labor for lawyers, judges, and law enforcement officers. The Government also established a coordinating council and allocated a budget for the National Plan of Action for Ending the Worst Forms of Child Labor. However, children in Mongolia continue to engage in child labor in animal husbandry and herding. Enforcement mechanisms for reducing child labor are minimal, and gaps persist in the legal framework and operating procedures for prosecuting criminal offenders, specifically regarding commercial sexual exploitation. I. PREVALENCE AND SECTORAL DISTRIBUTION OF CHILD LABOR Children in Mongolia are engaged in child labor in animal husbandry and herding.(1-6) In July 2013, the Mongolia National Statistics Office officially released the Mongolia National Child Labor Survey Report.(4) The report indicates that 11 percent of working children were engaged in hazardous work with boys comprising 8 out of 10 children. (4) The majority of child labor in Mongolia takes place in the informal sector in which there is little oversight and enforcement of labor laws.(7) Table 1 provides key indicators on children’s work and education in Mongolia. • CHRISTMAS-CAROLS-Notes-Rev.Pdf
CHRISTMAS CAROLS Although any Christmas song might be called a ‘carol’ these days, the word actually refers to an ancient English song-form where a refrain or chorus repeated after every stanza (or verse) and is often connected to celebrations like Christmas or Easter. The word carol is derived from the Old French word carole, a circle dance accompanied by singers (in turn derived from the Latin choraula). Carol’s origins are complex and disputed. Some of our familiar Christmas carols were originally pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations They were very popular as dance songs from the 1150s to the 1350s, after which their use expanded as processional songs sung during festivals, while others were written to accompany religious mystery plays. Whatever the origin, composers all over Europe started writing carols but most people could not understand them since they were written and sung in Latin. This changed in the early 13th century when St. Francis of Assisi introduced Christmas songs in church services in Italy for the first time — and true Christmas carols were officially born. In Assisi’s Nativity plays, which began in 1223, actors sang songs that described the scenes in the plays. Although the choruses were sometimes in Latin, the songs were usually written in the language that people could understand. The actors composed Christmas carols to sing during their Nativity plays and, later, they would walk through the streets still singing. It didn’t take long for these plays to spread to France, Spain and the rest of Europe. The tradition of singing Christmas songs in native languages became well established.

Issue 2- October 2014 Homecoming 2014:We’re on Top of the World by Caroline Zhou, Senior Class President This year’s homecoming dance fell on an earlier date than usual which made it extra stressful to organize it efficiently and successfully. That also means that there was less time for people to get crafty to ask a date to the dance; however, that didn’t stop homecoming from having a Artist of the Month ... page 2 great turnout. Fun Facts about Ebola The song chosen for the theme of the dance was “Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons as it perfectly represents JMM spirit. It was also used ... page 3 for the senior video, which incorporated actual video as opposed to the Prep Profiles ... page 4 usual slideshow, making it extra impressive. (Special shoutout to Renee Sports ... page 5 Kar-Johnson for making the video and to Brian Luo for providing a voice over). The pep rally Horoscopes ... page 6 was also a huge hit. The The Nerd Word, Part 2 MCs were Nasitta Keita, Drake Singleton, Haley Prudent, Payton Beverly, and Claire Franken. There was nonstop laughing during the lip-sync ...page 7 contest where there was even a special appearance from Mr. Schlitz and Admissions to College Mr. Voss during “Ice Ice Baby”. The seniors impressively swept all of the ...page 8 competitions except for the tug-of-war competition (won by the juniors). A money booth event replaced homecoming court, which wasn’t missed by many. The “Guy-Girl” dance performed by the Poms team was based off of Grease, and was one to remember! Hilarious and fun, all of the Sandys and Dannys captured the attention of their audience.

  • Secret Love Affair... Alan Reveals All
DP1475 28pg Bri Isles2.qxd 8/16/04 3:11 PM Page 6 Secret love affair... Alan reveals all or the last 18 months,Alan Titchmarsh has been quietly cultivating Fa secret love affair … but it won’t be a secret much longer. The wholesome family man has been spotted at locations across the country, cheeks flushed, eyes moist with emotion, caught (as one of his steamy novels might have it) in the crossbeams of passion. He describes his new love as “achingly beautiful”,“awe-inspiring” and “full of surprises”. But, he readily admits, she’s no spring chicken: in fact, she’s three billion years old.Alan, you see, has lost his heart to the British Isles. Ben Nevis from Aonach Mor 06 bbc.co.uk/nature DP1475 28pg Bri Isles2.qxd 8/16/04 3:11 PM Page 7 In BBC One’s British Isles: A Natural History,Alan travels the length and breadth of the nation to guide viewers through the millions of years of evolution that have shaped the now-familiar face of our landscape and wildlife. From the frozen summit of Ben Nevis to the sun-baked Isles of Scilly, he opens a window on Britain’s fascinating past and its stunning present – and invites viewers to stick out their heads. “What I hope this series does more than anything is to make people aware of the astounding beauty and Hadrian's Wall fascination of the islands we live in. I hope it infects people with a willingness to cherish them and to really care about them,” says Alan.“The series opens a window on our world and I want people to stick their heads out of it and say,‘Wow! We must take care of these islands – they’re fantastic, they’re tremendous, Bluebell wood they’re like nothing else on Earth.’” It’s the perfect job for a man who, at the helm of “Wow! We must take care of these both Gardeners’World and Ground Force, dedicated the islands – they’re fantastic, they’re best part of the last decade to getting us tremendous, they’re like nothing else interested in what lies outside our backdoors.

  • By Mike Haid
by Mike Haid hen Drummers Collective proprietors Paul Siegel and Rob Wallis began Wvideotaping master classes with high- profile drummers at their New York City music school in 1982, they had no idea that this bold move into the modern age of VHS tape recording would spiral into an internationally successful multimedia business, establishing them as the pre- eminent drum-video gurus of the industry. One could argue that this dynamic duo of drumming education is just as responsible for the advance- ment of the art of drumming as many of the innov- ative players they’ve painstakingly archived over their nearly thirty-year partnership. In 2000, Modern Drummer magazine honored Siegel and Wallis with an Editors’ AchievementPaiste: Tradition, Innovation, And Family Values Award, “in recognition of outstanding contribu- tion to the drum/percussion community.” In 2001, the Percussive Arts Society presented them with the President’s Achievement Award. In 2009, they celebrated ten years at the helm of their most recent successful venture, the award-winning drum instructional multimedia company Hudson Music. AN IDEA TAKES SHAPE Siegel and Wallis were students at a small underground music school in Manhattan called Drummers Collective when they sat down for Hudson’s Rob Wallis and Paul Siegel have collaborated with many of the greatest drummers of our time.
