Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will continue her father=s legacy at Shadwell Estate, with Angus Gold, Shadwell=s longtime racing manager, telling Racing Post that Sheikha Hissa will take over as head of the powerful racing and breeding operation. The news comes on the heels of Monday=s announcement that Shadwell Stud Director Richard Lancaster would step down. "We've been communicating with Sheikha Hissa over the past couple of months since Sheikh Hamdan sadly died and I'm currently on my way back from a trip out to Dubai to meet her to discuss things in person,@ Gold told Racing Post. "She confirmed to me that she and her family are very keen to honour Sheikh Hamdan's legacy and keep the whole thing going, which is fantastic. It's wonderful for his memory that she has the passion and her brothers are going to support her taking it forward and we'll do our best to do the same." Little is known about what the scale of Shadwell will be going forward, including whether Sheikha Hissa will combine the handful of runners she currently has in her own name under its banner, but Gold expressed that Sheikha Hissa shares her father=s passion for the animal. Landscape is a reflection of identity and diversity, a living natural and cultural heritage which evolves through time as a result of being acted upon by natural forces and human beings. The term “water landscape” designates the perception and use of water in its different manifestations. Viewed from an ecological perspective (Falkenmark 1992), the term water encompasses the whole water cycle, the precipitation in form of rain, hail and snow, the “blue” surface water of rivers and lakes and the “green water” residing in the vegetation. In this article we explore how natural water is perceived and used by an agro-pastoralist community in the Indian Himalaya, in Ladakh and transformed into a water-landscape providing sustenance, self- identity and a perfect ecological adaptation to a cold mountain desert environment.

The Irish Champion is one of three Challenge races at Leopardstown and highlights a weekend that features 10 total “Win and You’re In” races, including the prestigious Ricoh Woodbine Mile (GI) Sunday. A rainy forecast for Friday has caused Leopardstown officials to move the Irish Champion to the outside course, and to start Saturday’s race about one hour earlier in the program. The connections of both Coolmore’s Gleneagles and Anthony Oppenheimer’s Golden Horn, the pair of 3-year-old standouts are expected to meet in the 1 ¼-mile race after the latter withdrew from a potential clash in the “Win and You’re In” Juddmonte International (GI) at York August 19 due to the soft turf.
