Baked Apples Serving Size Serves 6, 1 apple per serving Ingredients

6 small apples 1 large lemon ¾ cup chopped ½ cup raisins ¼ cup brown sugar ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Rinse apples. Remove stems by cutting a 1-inch-wide hole out of the top of each apple. Cut into the hole to re- move and scoop out the core and seeds. Rinse lemon and cut in half. In a small bowl, squeeze the juice from each half. Discard seeds. In a second small bowl, mix walnuts, raisins, and brown sugar. Stuff the center of each apple with 1 heaping tablespoon of the mixture. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over the top of each apple. Place stuffed apples upright in the baking dish. Pour the lemon juice around them. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the skin is wrinkly. Spoon some of the pan juice over the apples about halfway through cooking time to keep the apples moist. Remove from oven. Let cool slightly before serving.

he Christmas stocking! How endearing to childhood’s joy T To find it bulging on Christ- mas morning With candy and nuts and a toy.

The Christmas stocking! What a thrill to a little boy’s hands When he tries hanging it from the mantel, As way on tiptoe he stands.

The Christmas stocking! The funniest sight, I believe, As it looks wrinkled, empty and flat, Ready for Santa on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas stocking Is the knobbiest looking sight When the youngster takes it from the mantel Where he hung it the other night.

The Christmas stocking Becomes the jolliest sight, I’d say, Filled with sweet goodies that are sure to please. What a thrill on Christmas Day.

The Christmas stocking! What a change from the night before, Where it hung so shapeless, wrinkled and limp Before Santa filled it galore.

The Christmas stocking! Each bulge is a brand-new surprise, Because of it, childhood’s Christmas magic Puts stars in the little ones’ eyes.

Page 9 CHANGES IN TRAVELER SERVICE

UPDATES ON TRAVELER

The Senior Programs Advisory Board and the Traveler Subcommittee have been meeting over the last few months reviewing Traveler services and reviewing costs associated with the program. Based on duplication of services or changes needed due the pandemic. We have made changes in the program.

Traveler service provides accessible transportation for individuals with an assessed disability or in- ability to access any other transportation modes that exist in the designated services are of Gar- field County. The hours of operation are Monday Through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on any holiday observed by Garfield County. Traveler provides passenger’s origin-to-destination,“ curb -to-curb” services. Drivers will assist passengers with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle.

Eligibility: To determine Traveler eligibility, the applicant must complete and submit the Traveler Application form and complete the functional assessment. If Traveler status is granted, the applicant will re- ceive a determination letter indicating the effective length of time. To download and complete an online application go to https://www.rfta.com/paratransit-2/garfield-county-traveler.

Changes in the service:

Traveler service is now available within the Garfield County Service area: a two-mile radius off In- terstate 70 between Parachute and Glenwood Springs; and a two-mile radius off Highway 82 be- tween Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. This is a reduction from the prior five-mile radius.

We have eliminated the monthly trip to Grand Junction since there are options to get to and from.

Bustang goes to and from the valley to Grand Junction twice daily as Greyhound goes once a day and several riders can use Medicaid transport to cover the cost of the ride. We are moving the Silt shopping day from Wednesday to Thursday due to scheduling conflicts. This will allow Traveler to return to the base by 5 p.m. each day.

The third change approved was to cancel the weekly trip from Rifle to Glenwood Springs and Glen- wood Springs to Rifle on Thursdays. Traveler will assist riders to get to the RFTA bus stop to catch the Hogback route to Glenwood Springs or to Rifle. Passengers 65 years of age or older ride RFTA for free. Traveler can assist passengers once they reach the other city to get to locations not on the bus route. Page 10 GRAB & GO VOLUNTEER LUNCH PHOTOS
