Zajac (338) overtook Scott Stevens (337) for sole possession of fifth place on the all-time franchise list on Feb 28 vs WSH. A 25-assist campaign would put Zajac ahead of MacLean (354; 4th) and Scott Gomez (361; 3rd).

Zajac (53) needs one power-play goal to tie Pat Verbeek (54) for fourth place in franchise history; Elias (113), MacLean (92) and Kirk Muller (69) hold the top three spots.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

The New Jersey Devils named center Nico Hischier the 12th captain in team history on February 20th.

At 22 years and 47 days old, he is the youngest captain currently in the NHL and the second youngest in New Jersey history (Kirk Muller, 21 years and 243 days old; both Muller and Hischier were handed the captaincy at the start of their fourth NHL season). Hischier also becomes just the second current Swiss-born captain in the League joining Roman Josi (Nashville).

At 23 years and 330 days, sixth youngest player in franchise history to record a streak of 10-games or longer. Zacha becomes the first player since Patrik Elias (23 years 258 days) in the 1999-2000 season to record a point streak of 10-games or longer at the age of 23 years and younger.

ROOKIES LEADING THE WAY

Ty Smith (2-14-16), Janne Kuokkanen (5-10-15), Yegor Sharangovich (7-5-12), Nathan Bastian (2-4-6), Mikhail Maltsev (4-0-4), and Nicholas Merkley (2-2-4) have all combined for 22 goals, 35 assists for 57 points which leads all rookies in points this season. As of March 17, 2021, the Devils one of two teams to have their rookies combine for 22 goals and 35 assists, respectively.

The last time in franchise history the Devils had a set of rookies that recorded at least 48 points through the teams first 26 games was the 2017-18 season. New Jersey was led by Nico Hischier (5-13-18) and Will Butcher’s (2-16-18), followed by Jesper Bratt (8-9-17) and Blake Coleman (2-2-4).
