The manor house (Shapwick Manor, previously known as Down House) was built after the manor was divided. Abstract Background The UK nuclear decommissioning priority is to reduce risk and hazard and to deliver the clean-up mission cost effectively. This is particularly relevant at Sellafield where the Legacy Ponds and Silos pose the most significant challenges. The availability of safe packaging for the movement and storage on the Sellafield site is a key enabler to meet the NDA mission for safe interim storage ahead of its subsequent treatment, packaging and final storage to a Geologic Disposal Facility (GDF). There are a significant number of packages and package design types operating on the Sellafield site. Some packages are licensed to the IAEA regulations for safe transport and others comply only with the Sellafield site specific requirements. Introduction Packages to and from the Sellafield site need to comply with the IAEA regulations for safe transport and must meet the Sellafield site requirements. However, the IAEA regulations do not apply to packages within a licensed site. For on-site safe package operations compliance is required against Sellafield site specific procedures, standards and guidance. Package Management System There are a significant number and types of package transfers routinely undertaken safely on the Sellafield site. The packages range from small (18Kg) hand held sample castles to large complex (100Te) packages some with in-built gamma gates, mechanical interlocks and hoisting drive mechanisms. The Sellafield Package Management System (SPMS) efficiently manages package operations and includes for asset register, package tracking, operational history and maintenance. -

The first day is always a chance to unwind and reflect and Sunday was a chance to do just that. I spent a good hour or so, wandering around Brymore with Mr Ashton and Mr Austin reflecting on a wonderful swimming gala, a busy year and discussing plans for the future. I felt the atmosphere at the swimming gala was really special and, to me, summed up everything that Brymore stands for. Firstly, competitive swimming, where it was all about gaining points for your house, no matter what your ability. Fantastic support from the boys ensured everyone had to give their best, with real sportsmanship as many competitors supported and congratulated each other. This was fol- lowed by the academic awards, where boys received cups and certificates from the Chair of Governors for their hard work throughout the year, with the reaction of the boys to the winners showing genuine acknowledgment. I am sure Mr Oliver will never forget the reception he received when accepting his full colours in recognition of the years of hard work and commitment he has shown to the boys of Brymore. Finally, the support from FOBSA and the parents was excellent, not only through a great turnout but with many waiting around for over an hour at the end so that along with their son they could seek out staff and thank them despite having long journeys home to face. -

A few years ago a regional tourist board coined the phrase ‘Britain’s best-kept secret’ as a way to lure more visitors. This is not a tourist guide of course, but it might be fair to say that state boarding is perhaps the ‘best-kept secret’ in British education. Members of the State Boarding Schools Association represent enormous diversity. There are 38 state boarding schools right across the UK ranging in boarding numbers from under 50 to over 600. The mix of schools includes grammar schools and schools specialising in areas like agriculture or military.
