Professional Development Hours

Professional development (PD) refers to participation in activities that contribute to an educator’s competence, performance and effectiveness in the profession of early education. PD activities should stem from the needs of the teacher and program, based on the QRIS elements of quality. PD should include topics aligned with the Continuous Quality Improvement Pathways and QRIS Matrix Elements of quality. sTo meet the 21 hours PD annually for points 3-5 it is the site’s responsibility to track verification of the designated Lead Teacher’s time spent on professional growth activities. 1. Reasonable verification may include: − transcripts, agenda, copy of sign in sheet, records of conference attendance, or other tangible evidence of time spent. 2. The year starts at the date of validation and proceeds through the next validation date, which then triggers a new year. 3. *Lead teacher is the adult with primary responsibility for a group of children. For the purposes of rating an early childhood classroom, lead teacher is the adult who meets the minimum licensing requirements as a teacher and any additional requirements for the point- level of the rating. When there is more than one teacher working in a group, the lead teacher shall be considered the person with the highest degree. In Person Raising Quality Together (RQT) Offerings: 1. Attend a RQT PD Session − Sessions are scheduled on Saturdays and are specially selected to support program staff‘s on- going knowledge and skill acquisition. − Monthly emails are sent to administrators highlighting upcoming professional development opportunities − RQT PD Calendar is emailed to site administrators at the beginning of the program year. 2. Participate in the Early Learning Administrators Leadership (ELALA) − Administrators from programs at all Step levels are eligible to participate − Center directors and family child care owners benefit from a supportive group of like-minded colleagues who want to grow their leadership, management, and relationship skills that benefit their programs’ overall success.
