Purpose The purpose of this fact book is to provide a convenient and accessible source for frequently sought information about the College. Updated annually for each fall term, the fact book consolidates and summarizes information from both internal and external sources including externally published and/or publicly available state and federal sources (e.g., Florida Department of Education, Florida College System, and the U.S. Department of Education). For additional information see http://www.fscj.edu/district/board-of-trustees/index.php 2013-2014 Fact Book 1 What’s New for 2013-2014 The latest (2013-14) FACTOR is organized the same way (and contains similar information) as last year’s edition with a few noteworthy improvements. While the format remains the same, the overall appearance has improved with the addition of numerous student, faculty, and staff photos used throughout the volume as provided by the Florida State College at Jacksonville Communications department. The graduation rate section has been expanded to include additional information about student graduation and transfer rates. Several live links (available in the PDF version) have also been included to enable easy online access to source and detail information. In addition to completer counts by program for Associate in Arts (AA), Baccalaureate, Associate in Science (AS), Technical Certificate (TC), and Vocational Certificate (VC) programs, expanded student demographic details as well as employment and wage information is now available in an expanded and enhanced set of Appendices. FACTOR All letters in the fact book name “FACTOR” are present in the College name itself: FloRidA State College aT JacksOnville. The title reflects the quantitatively objective (and occasionally abstruse) nature of terms, methodologies, and definitions prevalent in the area of higher education measurement and Institutional Research.     FLORIDA GATEWAY COLLEGE AND DIXIE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 2016-2017 DUAL ENROLLMENT ARTICULATION AGREEMENT SECTION I WHEREAS, Florida Gateway College, hereafter referred to as the College, and the Dixie County School District, hereafter referred to as the School Board, subscribe to the educational philosophy and policy that each individual student should have the maximum opportunity to enhance hislher learning opportunities in courses suited to his/her educational, career, and personal needs, and WHEREAS, Section 1007.27 and 1007.271,Florida Statutes specifies that a variety of articulated acceleration mechanisms be available for secondary school students attending Florida public or non-public schools, and Section 1001.64-1001.65, Florida Statutes, specify that dual enrollment articulation agreements shall be executed between college boards of trustees and district school boards within each college district, and shall establish an articulation committee, and WHEREAS, the College and the School Board desire to implement the above statutes by creating opportunities for high school students to pursue college-level instruction, through an articulated acceleration program. NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises stated herein, the parties agree to cooperate in the establishment, maintenance, and implementation of a Dual Enrollment program (the Program) between the College and the respective School Board. In implementing this Program, the parties agree to these general principles: A. COURSE PROGRAM OFFERINGS 1.     6A-10.033 Postsecondary Instructional Unit Definitions. The definitions herein apply to instruction in postsecondary career centers operated by school districts and Florida College System institutions. (1) Credit. Credit is a unit of measure assigned to courses or course equivalent learning. Credit is awarded if the learning activity it represents is part of, or preparatory for, an organized and specified program leading to a postsecondary certificate or degree. Credit is a device which indicates to the learner, to educational institutions, to employers, and to others how much of the program the learner has completed. The credit awarded may be independent of where the learning occurs. If a learning activity does not meet these requirements, credit shall not be awarded. The only types of postsecondary credit authorized are: (a) College credit. College credit is the type of credit assigned by Florida College System institutions to courses or course equivalent learning that is part of an organized and specified program leading to a baccalaureate, associate degree, certificate, or Applied Technology Diploma pursuant to the stipulations in subsections 6A-14.030(5)-(8), F.A.C. One (1) college credit is based on the learning expected from the equivalent of fifteen (15) fifty-minute periods of classroom instruction; with credits for such activities as laboratory instruction, internships, and clinical experience determined by the institution based on the proportion of direct instruction to the laboratory exercise, internship hours, or clinical practice hours. 1. Lower division college credit. Lower division college credit is assigned to college credit courses offered to freshmen and sophomores (1000 and 2000 level courses).

    College of Engineering Academic Programs and Degree Plans Students Entering with Transfer Credit Transfer students include those from other units within Prairie View A&M University as well as those from other educational institutions. Transfer students external to Prairie View A&M University must furnish an official transcript to the Office of Admissions for evaluation of all college level work completed. Transfer students with less than 30 hours of transferable credit are admitted under the criteria for first-time freshmen. Transfer students with 30 hours or more of transferable credit must meet the following requirements: 1. Students must meet the Prairie View A&M University and the College of Engineering admissions requirements. 2. Must have a ‘C’ or higher in all transfer courses. 3. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in all math, science, and engineering courses. Students who meet these criteria will be admitted directly into a major. Those students that do not meet the criteria will need to have their records reviewed by their desired academic department and be considered on individual merits for conditional admission. Placement in an Engineering Major Students meeting all admission criteria for entry directly from high school or for entry with transfer credit will be admitted as a program major: CHEG (Chemical Engineering), CVEG (Civil Engineering), CPEG (Computer Engineering), ELEG (Electrical Engineering), MCEG (Mechanical Engineering), CPSC (Computer Science), ELET (Electrical Engineering Technology) and CPET (Computer Engineering Technology).
