International Theatre Institute ITI International Dance Committee IDC International Dance Day – 29 April 2010 International Dance Day Message 2010 by Julio Bocca, Argentina Dance is discipline, work, teaching, communication. With it we save on words that perhaps others would not understand and, instead, we establish a universal language familiar to everyone. It gives us pleasure, it makes us free and it comforts us from the impossibility we humans have to fly like birds, bringing us closer to heaven, to the sacred, to the infinite. It is a sublime art, different each time, so much like making love that at the end of each performance it leaves our heart beating very hard and looking forward to the next time. • Ballet Arizona's Season of Love and Romance Opens with Giselle
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Katrina Olson (602) 343-6517 [email protected] Ballet Arizona’s Season of Love and Romance opens with Giselle Photo by Rosalie O’Connor Classical ballet from the Romantic era set in the Rhineland November 1 – 4 in Symphony Hall (Phoenix, Ariz.) Otherworldly spirits, breathtaking delicacy and ethereal ballet open the season as Ballet Arizona performs the romantic masterpiece, Giselle November 1-4, 2012 at Symphony Hall with The Phoenix Symphony. First presented in Paris in 1841, Giselle is one of the most beloved ballets in the repertoire due to its spectacle, romantic story and glorious, classical dance. The title role of Giselle requires intense demands on technical perfection, grace and acting skills from the dancers. Giselle is particularly challenging, as the ballerina must portray the innocence and youth of a peasant girl who falls in love; then must depict deep melancholy as she dies from a broken heart and joins the spirits of the underworld. Ballet Arizona 3645 East Indian School Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85018 (602) 343-6517 balletaz.org Alternating in the title role of Giselle, are prima ballerinas Natalia Magnicaballi, Tzu-Chia Huang and Kokoro Umemoto, who will be making her debut with Ballet Arizona. “This kind of detailed acting and character building is rare in ballet today, and what really sets this production [Giselle] apart is the clarity of its storytelling.” – Helene Kaplan, Dance View Times Accompanying Ballet Arizona’s corps of 34 dancers will be the Phoenix Symphony performing Adolphe Adam’s poetic score. Giselle’s choreography, created by the master Marius Petipa will be overseen and staged by Ballet Arizona’s Artistic Director Ib Andersen.

The film elucidates the mid-life crisis of writer/director Mario reframed in an erotic site wherein his masculinity is challenged, distressed, and resurrected. Montecristo Magazine (online) Paloma Herrera: Prima Ballerina Dec. 3, 2014 Jim Tobler http://montecristomagazine.com/arts/paloma-herrera Paloma Herrera was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and began her training at the age of seven with the legendary Olga Ferri. She graduated with the highest qualification at the Superior Art Institute at Teatro Colón, and her rise in the ballet world proved meteoric. In January 1991, having just turned 15, Herrera moved to New York to continue her studies at the School of American Ballet, where she was given the lead role in George Balanchine’s Raymonda Variations for its annual workshop. Only six months later, she joined the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). She was promoted to soloist two years later, and became, at age 19, the youngest principal dancer in ABT history. Her retirement awaits, in a few scant months’ time. Herrera is enthused about a return to the stage in Vancouver, dancing in the Goh Ballet Company’s presentation of The Nutcracker. “As you can imagine, is a very special time for me now that I will retire near the end of 2015. So, that is why I’m so happy to go back and dance in Vancouver, a ballet that I love, and with Anna-Marie’s production, completely new for me. But that is my way, always, until the very, very end, keeping my career fresh, exciting, with new experiences and with no limits.” She refers to Anna-Marie Holmes, choreographer of this year’s Nutcracker: “I have worked with Anna-Marie many times, for La Corsaire, since she came very often to the ABT to stage it.
