Carl Palmer's Elp Legacy FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY JULY 1, 2021 CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY ANNOUNCES ITS RETURN TO LIVE PERFORMANCES. ACCLAIMED MUSICIAN WILL PAY TRIBUTE TO EMERSON LAKE & PALMER FOR ITS 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. Legendary drummer and musician, Carl Palmer, has announced his first round of live shows, marking the return to live performances after a nearly two year hiatus as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic. Kicking off on Wednesday, September 1st., at Daryl’s Place in Pawling, NY, the initial run of shows will conclude on Sunday, September 12th., at the Orange Blossom Opry, in Weirsdale, FL. The initial US tour will be followed by Palmer’s European tour, before he returns for a second run of US dates in October and November. “The band and myself are very eager to get back on stages in America, and around the rest of world, where possible,” said Palmer. “The show will have some material we have not played in years, as well as ELP’s best loved material. Visually, we will include footage in the show that reflects the highlights of ELP’s career. We are hoping all will go as planned with the many shows we have in place between now and mid- November.” In addition to Palmer, the band still features Paul Bielatowicz on guitar and vocals; and Simon Fitzpatrick on bass and Chapman stick. Carl Palmer, who was voted by ROLLING STONE as one of the 10 Greatest Drummers of All Time, is a founding member of EMERSON LAKE & PALMER and ASIA. Since he began in the business in the 1960s Carl Palmer has sold over 50 million records! Since 2001, Carl has fronted a 3 piece power trio: guitar, bass, vocals, & drums doing the classically driven rock hits of ELP with NO KEYBOARDS. These dates mark the beginning of three year drive to promote the 50th Anniversary and beyond of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, whose sole surviving member is Carl Palmer. Also planned during the celebration period will be a limited edition expansive biography of the band; a new Palmer art collection based on the five main ELP studio albums; a documentary; KARN EVIL 9, a major Hollywood film (now in development with Radar Pictures) and a special tour announcement that will reunite Palmer in performance with the late Emerson & Lake through modern technology. "This tour is beginning of a three year agenda," explains Palmer. "There are many special celebrations of ELP that we will explain in detail in the near future." Three of the compositions are new pieces commissioned by Woody Chenoweth for the Midwest-based saxophone quartet, The Shredtet. The other two pieces include a newer work for saxophone quartet never recorded in its final version, as well as an unpublished arrangement of a progressive rock masterpiece. The members of The Shredtet include saxophonists Woody Chenoweth, Jonathan Brink, Samuel Lana, and Austin Atkinson. The principal component of this project is a recording of each work, featuring the author and The Shredtet. The first piece, Sax Quartet No. 2 (2018), was commissioned for The Shredtet and written by Frank Nawrot (b. 1989). The second piece, also commissioned for The Shredtet, was written by Dan Puccio (b. 1980) and titled, Scherzos for Saxophone Quartet (2018). The third original work for The Shredtet, Rhythm and Tone Study No. 3 (2018), was composed by Josh Bennett (b. 1982). The fourth piece, Fragments of a Narrative , was written by Ben Stevenson (b. 1979) in 2014 and revised in 2016, and was selected as runner-up in the Donald Sinta Quartet’s 2016 National Composition Competition.

While I was ecstatically getting my brain razed by some of the latest NuProgressives (Chocolate Horses and Nerves Junior being two of the most recent and among the best), this MVD DVD providentially came my way as kind of a subtle grail, a piece of the true cross, a time machine back to where it all started. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer have reigned as co-equal kings among a coterie of legendary ensembles from an age when unbelievable intelligence, talent, and musical mastery held sway, a time that sadly waned as the shenanigans of punk took over (a regicide happily and speedily failed, as we've seen), and is now in the last gasps of its glory. Before Jorden Rudess, Vitali Kuprij, and others arose, Keith Emerson, Jon Lord, Kerry Minear, Mike Pinder, and sundry geniuses established what virtuosity meant in a rock keyboardist. Before Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, and other skins-pounders took over the reins, Carl Palmer, Bill Bruford, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, and others were the drummers to be feared and admired. And when it came to the bass guitar, Greg Lake, Colin Hodgkinson, and Percy Jones preceded Flea and the gaggle of modern day four- stringers. There are aways antecedents. Earlier, Emerson fulfilled a dream we progheads have long held: the reunion of his pre-ELP band, The Nice, and, man, was it ever a rare thrill to see Keith, Brian Davison, and Lee Jackson making music again (if you're a Nice fan, check out the hideously cool Microwerks Diamond Hard Blue Apples of the Moon 2-CD issuance of 'bootleg' materials from the original 60s Nice).

Carl Palmer, among the most renowned drummers in rock history and a founding member of both ELP and ASIA, has been asked to appear on the much anticipated 2019 ROYAL AFFAIR tour, at the request of headliners, YES. Palmer and his group will perform at all the shows on the tour in United States and Canada. Joining Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy for this tour will be legendary British vocalist Arthur Brown. Brown, and a then-18 year old Carl Palmer, worked together in THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN, scoring a #1 album and single in 1968. In addition to singing some of ELP's best-loved classics, Brown with Palmer's band will be performing his iconic hit, "Fire," in the show. Touring with this band since 2001, Palmer presents a musical celebration of the groundbreaking progressive rock group, ELP. The tour will further promoter Palmer's latest CD/DVD release: CARL PALMER'S ELP LEGACY LIVE, as well as the successful re-launch of the entire Emerson Lake & Palmer catalog, both through BMG Music Worldwide. “ We are all very excited to do this historic British Prog Rock tour at the request of our friends, YES, " says Palmer.
