Administrative Experience: In my very first job as Speech Therapist at the National Institute for Mental Health & Neuro Sciences, Bangalore, I was responsible for organizing and running the newly established Speech Therapy Unit in this multidisciplinary specialist hospital. From 1983 to 1996 I led the Department of Speech Pathology at the All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, where I was responsible for the day to day administration of a department consisting of about 20 staff members and the administration of the speech diagnostic and speech therapy clinics with an average turn over of about 250 clients a day. In my capacity as head of a major department in this premier national institute I served on several administrative committees such as selection committees, departmental promotion committees, technical committees both within the institute and other similar institutions elsewhere in the country. I have also been actively involved in public education through articles in newspapers and periodicals as well as talks at public forums, on the radio and television. In November 2000 I started an intensive early intervention program for children with communication disorders including Specific Language Impairment, Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia (or Developmental Coordination Disorders) and the Autism Spectrum Disorders. Within the last few years the program grew rapidly in to several units in three Indian cities. In 2003 I established a Trust for this program and have been its managing trustee since then. The program is now replicated across India with 15 units on ground and we continue to scale it up. Additionally we have started new clinical programs and are running a post graduate diploma in early intervention, recognized by RCI and affiliated to KSOU.
