Eye moderately large, its diameter longer than snout length. Mouth small and highly protrusible; 1 or 2 finger-like postmaxillary processes on dorsoposterior surface of premaxilla (Figs 1 and 2); angle of jaw oblique, about 40° to horizontal. Dentition variously reduced; small or minute conical teeth; premaxillae, vomer, and palatines with or without teeth. Caudal fin deeply forked. Margin of dorsal and anal fins more or less evenly sloping; third or fourth dorsal-fin spines longest; second or third anal-fin spines longest, remaining spines and rays gradually decreasing in length (except in Dipterygonotus with dorsal fin profile not evenly sloping, last IV-V dorsal-fin spines small and nearly separate, connected only at their bases by membrane, and dorsal-fin rays much longer than these spines). Dorsal fin with X to XV slender weak spines and 8 to 22 soft rays; anal fin with III spines and 9 to 13 soft rays;pelvicfins with I spine and 5 soft rays; pectoral fins with 16 to 24 rays; caudal fin distinctly forked, with pointed lobes. A total of 120 fishes in this group are listed as occurring in India based on published literature, of which 25 require further confirmation and validation. The most diverse order was perciformes with 175 species, 100 genera and 43 families. The top four families with the highest number of species were gobidae (28 species), carangidae (23 species), engraulidae (15 species) and lutjanidae (14 species). Conservation status of all taxa includes one species as endangered, five species as vulnerable, 14 near threatened, 93 least concern and 16 data deficient. As numbers of commercial, sports, ornamental and cultivable fishes are high, commercial and recreational fishing could be organized. Seed production by selective breeding is recommended for aquaculture practices in estuarine areas of Tamil Nadu. Phylogenetic relationships of 43 species in 11 genera, representing four subfamilies of the family Lutjanidae and two genera of the family Caesionidae, were inferred using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI). Further assessment using the mtDNA control region (CR) was carried out to infer the relationship between the Indian and western Pacific types of Lutjanus russellii collected from the coast of Peninsular Malaysia. A total of 11 and 12 species were sequenced for COI and CR genes, respectively. Clade formation reflects, to some extent, the species groupings based on morphological characteristics and their biogeography. The close phylogenetic relationship between Pinjalo pinjalo and the Lutjanus red snappers (Lutjanus malabaricus and Lutjanus sebae) warrants a taxonomic revision of the former as the two genera are currently separated based on non-exclusive morphological characters. A sequence divergence of 4.2% between the Indian and western Pacific types of L. -

Present study was carried out by conducting surveys for locating their nesting sites along coast of Ratnagiri district and 12 nests of White-bellied Sea Eagle Haliaeetus leucogaster at different sites along Velas to Dabhol were studied. Various ecological parameters such as nesting tree species, nesting tree height, nesting tree GBH, nest height, geo-coordinates, distance from coast, disturbance level were considered. WBSE was found to be most abundantly nesting (N =12) on Casuarina equisetifolia tree which, accounts to 83% of the total nesting trees and only 02 nests, just 17% of the total nesting trees studied, were on Sterculia foetida. In most cases, it was observed that WBSEs prefer nest trees with larger GBH as compared to same tree species of smaller girth. Location of nest from the supratidal mark was measured to study nesting preference about distance from the sea and we found that, the nearest nest was 30 m away from the coast and the farthest one was at a distance of around 900 m. -

With her rich cultural heritage as superbly manifest in many of the architectural wonders (palaces, temples, mosques, forts, etc), caves and prehistoric wall paintings, her widely varied topography ranging from the monotonous plains to the loftiest mountains of the world, her large climatic variations ranging from some of the wettest and the driest as well as from the hottest and the coldest parts of the world, beautiful long beaches on the sea coast, vast stretches of sands, gregarious tropical forests and above all, the great variety of the life-style, India offers an unending choice for the tourist. In developing countries like India tourism has become one of the major sectors of the economy, contributing to a large proportion of the National income and generating huge employment opportunities. It has become the fastest growing service industry in the country with great potentials for its further expansion and diversification. Tourism industry is capable to generate employment to both skilled and unskilled workers, directly and indirectly. This paper studied the problem faced by tourism industry in coastal Karnataka .
