In my opinion, the removal of dams in our rivers is a good thing. Three dams were removed from the Raritan River recently along with the Weston Mill Dam removed in August 2017 from the Millstone River. With the removal of the Weston Mill Dam, the river level behind the dam was lowered by about 2 feet. I have noticed a change in how the rivers react to rainfall events. The removal of dams lowers water levels in those sections affected so it seems to have a positive impact to help with flooding. In addition, the sediment buildup behind a dam is bad for the river itself by reducing the water capacity of the river bed. The Island Farm Weir placed in the Raritan River in the mid-1990’s, just beyond the point where the Millstone River joins in, raised water levels in both rivers by approximately 2 feet. The purpose of this weir was to provide better sourcing of water for the water company to provide an The first graduating class of Manville High School celebrated their 60th class reunion on Octo- ber 6th at The Landing in Hills- borough.
