The removal of dams lowers water levels in those sections affected so it seems to have a positive impact to help with flooding. In addition, the sediment buildup behind a dam is bad for the river itself by reducing the water capacity of the river bed. The Island Farm Weir placed in the Raritan River in the mid-1990’s, just beyond the point where the Millstone River joins in, raised water levels in both rivers by approximately 2 feet. The purpose of this weir was to provide better sourcing of water for the water company to provide an
