Assistant Farm Manager Position at Ravenhill Herb Farm Are you interested in permaculture growing methods and working on our beautiful farm? We are looking for an amazing person that loves farm life and would like to A) live on-site (in our travel trailer) and manage the day-to-day activities of our farm, or B) live off-site and work 15-20 hours per week. This position includes being responsible for carrying out our day-today operations, guiding our volunteers when we have them (generally April through June), and helping us teach school groups about farming and animals (only if you’re interested). This is an outdoor position. You don’t need to have a lot of experience as we are happy to teach you, but you need an extremely positive and keen attitude, as well as the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather year-round. About Ravenhill Herb Farm Ravenhill Herb Farm is a locally-run farm overlooking the Saanich Inlet of the Salish Sea. As stewards of this 10-acre west coast oasis since 2014, we are dedicated to growing food and herbs using permaculture and sustainable methods. We are sharing knowledge to inspire others to grow food and herbs! We are a family living out our dream, contributing to our community and the planet while celebrating the simple joys of nature. We care for this land so that it grows healthier while providing nourishment for future generations to enjoy. We enjoy our goats and dogs, and our chickens lay the most amazing eggs! We have busy lives, both away and on the farm, and we would love to have your help. Please check our website at www.ravenhillherbfarm.ca and our Instagram and Facebook page for more information. Duties of the Position • Oversee day-to-day operations (this includes animal care, seeding, transplanting, drip irrigation and hand irrigation, bed preparation, harvesting, clean-up, stocking farmstand, preparing farm for events and workshops, mulching, weeding, pruning, and more!). • Assist us in teaching school and tour groups. • Maintain seeding and planting records. • Learn and enhance our daily systems. • 15-25 hours per week over the course of 3-5 days (we are quite flexible in creating a scheudule but prefer that it stay fairly consistent once established). Summer hours will be closer to 25/week and winter hours closer to 10- 15/week. Work days start at 8am. You will have up to 2 weeks off during the growing season, but holidays over the late winter and fall are quite open and we are happy to discuss this with you when the time comes. So who are we really looking for? The right person: someone who is extremely positive, energetic, and loves being outside; is passionate about growing food, healthy eating, and appreciating the earth; and simply enjoys life, growing and learning. We are hoping to find a person that is exceptionally clean and tidy, mature, understands the value of hard work, and takes responsibility for their own lives and the decisions that they make. If you’re someone who is run-down or gets sick often, this is probably not the right position for you. If you don’t like being outside 90% of the time, this is definitely not the right position for you.
