It’s been a year of both triumph and, unfortunately, tragedy and in this issue we take time out to remember María de Villota, whose passing in October left a deep void not just in motor sport but in all our hearts. María’s bravery following her F1 testing accident and the dedication she displayed afterwards – not only in promoting female involvement in motor sport but also safety on the road and track – will be missed. Elsewhere, it was a year of great success for women competitors and in this edition we look at Lucile Cypriano’s victory in the VW and commission-supported shoot-out for a place in next year’s VW Scirocco R-Cup and reveal how the FIA European Rallycross Championship has become a haven for female racers. It’s been a great year for CONTACTS: women in all forms of motor sport and IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER OR we look forward to even more in 2014! STORIES FOR THE NEXT ISSUE, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Spain Volkswagen are World Champions* – manufacturers’ title following one-two victory in Spain Wolfsburg (27 October 2013). Part two of the World Champions’ story: Volkswagen has won the manufacturers’ title in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with an outstanding one-two victory at the Rally Spain. That means all the WRC titles* for 2013 will go to the car maker from Wolfsburg. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ crown three weeks ago at the Rally France. The French duo went on to score an impressive win – their eighth this season – ahead of their team-mates Jari- Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) at the “Rally de España”. As a result, Volkswagen has an unassailable lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship with one round still to go this season. Winning three titles in its debut year with the Polo R WRC is Volkswagen’s greatest motorsport achievement to date. Title wins that will go down in history – Volkswagen’s debut Volkswagen’s achievements in the 2013 WRC season are unparalleled. The German team clinched all of the titles in the top category of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) in its debut year – the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ Championship and the manufacturers’ trophy. No other manufacturer has managed to win a World Championship in its first year since the World Rally Championship began. Even in the history of Formula 1, no car maker has yet taken the title in its opening season through their own efforts. Volkswagen’s performance has exceeded all expectations.

RALLYRACC RALLY DE ESPAÑA 21 OCTOBER – 24 OCTOBER 2010 FIA JUNIOR WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP (FOR DRIVERS) ROUND 6 OF 6 STATISTICS 1. Event Summary 4. Driver Championship Standings 2. Driver Quotes 5. Next Round 3. Results (Event) 1. EVENT SUMM ARY Local hero Lemes claims maiden victory; Burkart makes history as last ever J-WRC Champion* After one of the most unpredictable J-WRC showdowns ever, it was German pairing Aaron Burkart and his co- driver Andre Kachel who, despite finishing in fourth place, drove their Suzuki Swift home to claim the 2010 FIA Junior World Rally Championship title * on the final round of the Junior series at Rally de España. Meanwhile, local partnership Yeray Lemes (ESP, Renault) and Rogelio Peñate were jubilant to win their first ever J-WRC round on their home event after a clean and stylish drive, only interrupted by a puncture on SS13. Having set consistently quick times throughout the season, Lemes took the lead from the opening stage of his home event, proving his form and pulling out a 44-second lead on Championship contender Hans Weijs Jnr (NLD, Citroën) on Day One. But after three years in the J-WRC, Weijs wasn’t about to give up without a fight when he had the Championship title within his grasp. Having got through the gravel stages of Day One, the young Dutchman felt more at home on the familiar tarmac stages that followed, which he’d expertly negotiated to comfortably win the Junior category in Spain last year. Refusing to hold anything in reserve, Weijs attacked with such unwavering confidence that on SS8 and SS9 he clocked top 10 overall times in his 2WD Citroën.
