October 8, 2008 Thomasenia Duncan, Esquire General Counsel October 8, 2008 RECEIVED FEDERAL ELECTION Thomasenia Duncan, Esquire COMMISSION General Counsel OFFICE OF GENERAL Federal Election Commission COUNSEL mMITR4 999 E Street, NW TOOBOCT 15 A»U5 Washington, DC 20463 Re: Complaint Against Roy Carter for Congress Committee for exceeding contribution limits. Dear Ms. Duncan: Pursuant to 2 USC § 437g(aXl) and 11 CFR § 111.4, please accept this letter as a Complaint against Roy Carter CD for Congress Committee ("Carter Campaign"). Roy Carter is a candidate for Congress in the 5 District of in North Carolina. H in The facts in this matter indicate that the Carter Campaign accepted contributions from Joseph T-Bone" Burnett in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended (the "Act"), and Federal Election «gr Commission ("FEC" or "Commission*1). o The Carter Campaign held a fundraiser in Asheville on June 14,2008 with Joseph "T-Bone" Burnett where Mr. Burnett provided ten limited edition packages for a conceit with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, and T Bone Burnett See Exhibit A. According to Stacey Carter, Mr. Burnett also provided Roy Carter with an autographed guitar to auction off to benefit his campaign. See Exhibit B. However, the Carter Campaign does not list a single transaction in conjunction with the contribution of tickets or a signed guitar on the July Quarterly Report filed with the FEC. See Exhibit C. The Carter Campaign accepted contributions from Joseph 'T-Bone" Burnett in excess of legal limits and blatantly disregarded the law with regard to contributions and reporting requirements of the FEC. Mr. Burnett's contributions of the tickets and autographed guitar exceeds legal contribution limits for the General Election on November 4,2008. Accordingly, we respectfully request that the Commission must conduct an immediate investigation into the violations outlined above and impose the maximum penalty under law. The foregoing is correct and accurate to the best of my knowledge, information and belief. Respectfully submitted, ^Swor^n to and subscribed of October, 2008. • MUSIC 262: Art/Prog Rock [Brian Ward Demonstrates a Tune on Piano
MUSIC 262: Art/Prog Rock [Brian Ward demonstrates a tune on piano] [Brian Ward]: So around this time in rock and roll we really start to see a lot of fragmentation going on, and that’s reflected in this course. The way we have this designed is so that we can go in different directions with the music, and that’s what the music did all sort of at the same time. One of the directions is what we now call art rock and also progressive rock. Now art rock and progressive rock are terms that are used loosely. A good way to describe it is art rock is rock and roll that is influenced by classical music while progressive rock is more influenced by jazz, so- but you have different elements in varying degrees of influence and in different ways. A good illustration of that is one of the first bands that I want to talk about is The Who. Now The Who were definitely a straight down the line rock and roll band, and they started like a lot of these other British bands: imitating the blues and rhythm and blues music from the United States, but The Who were very unique. They had probably the most four individualized members of any band of all time. All four members of the band, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon, were all very, very different people coming from different backgrounds, and that reflected in their music, and they used that to their advantage quite a bit. But with The Who I think rock star first becoming an art form in the sense that they had longer forms and they used many structures that eventually became mini-operas and they eventually made a rock opera called “Tommy.” Now when they started out they were more on the cutting edge of hard rock.

He has also worked with venerable blues greats such as Sam Lay, Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell, Dave Meyers and his father, the legendary Jimmy Rogers. Born July 4th, 1965 in Chicago, he grew up in a household where he became acquainted with a veritable who's who of Chicago bluesmen. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Mabon, Little Walter and Albert King, to name a few, would all stop by the house to visit the "old man." Coming from this environment has instilled in Lane the deepest respect for elder statesmen of the blues. "I feel blessed and fortunate, to have known all those cats, and I do not take it for granted." At the age of eight, he began playing his dad's guitar, which he wasn't supposed to do. "I would break a string and put it back in the case like he wasn't going to discover it," Lane recalls.
