Presencia De Lo Anterior En Francesco Guccini = from the Man to the Man
171 ISSN: 1576-7787 171 DEL HOMBRE AL HOMBRE: PRESENCIA DE LO ANTERIOR EN FRANCESCO GUCCINI From the Man to the Man. ABSTRACT: The article aims to take singer/songwriting as a genre in itself that nevertheless shares visions of humankind and strategies with other arts, such as literature, which it so often feeds off. In this way, the presence and use of preceding traditions sometimes becomes the core of the genre. This can be seen in some of Francesco Guccini’s output throughout his songbooks/ records, which make up an important part of his poetics. Key words: Singer/songwriting; Francesco Guccini; literature; Humanism and literary tradi- tion; popular poetry. -

RESEARCH THESIS ISSN 1670-8539 Large-Scale Music Classification using an Approximate k-NN Classifier by Haukur Pálmason Research thesis submitted to the School of Computer Science at Reykjavík University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Computer Science January 2011 Research Thesis Committee: Dr. Björn Þór Jónsson, Supervisor Associate Professor, Reykjavík University, Iceland Dr. Laurent Amsaleg Research Scientist, IRISA-CNRS, France Dr. Yngvi Björnsson Associate Professor, Reykjavík University, Iceland Copyright Haukur Pálmason January 2011 Large-Scale Music Classification using an Approximate k-NN Classifier Haukur Pálmason January 2011 Abstract Content based music classification typically uses low-level feature vectors of high-dimensionality to represent each song. Since most classification meth- ods used in the literature do not scale well, the number of such feature vec- tors is usually reduced in order to save computational time. Approximate k-NN classification, on the other hand, is very efficient and copes better with scale than other methods. It can therefore be applied to more feature vec- tors within a given time limit, potentially resulting in better quality. In this thesis, we first demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of approximate k-NN classification through a traditional genre classification task, achieving very respectable accuracy in a matter of minutes. We then apply the approx- imate k-NN classifier to a large-scale collection of more than thirty thousand songs. We show that, through an iterative process, the classification con- verges relatively quickly to a stable state. -

Having played the instru- ment for, then, almost two decades, I thought that a novelist would not, could not, feature specialty instruments such as the C-melody sax if he did not play the horn himself. Once the saxophone had caught my attention, I noticed all sorts of uncommon references that seemed to confirm my hunch that Thomas Pynchon himself played the instrument: McClintic Sphere’s 4½ reed, the contra- bass sax of Against the Day, Gravity’s Rainbow’s Charlie Parker passage. -

The K-Pop Wave: an Economic Analysis
The K-pop Wave: An Economic Analysis Patrick A. Messerlin1 Wonkyu Shin2 (new revision October 6, 2013) ABSTRACT This paper first shows the key role of the Korean entertainment firms in the K-pop wave: they have found the right niche in which to operate— the ‘dance-intensive’ segment—and worked out a very innovative mix of old and new technologies for developing the Korean comparative advantages in this segment. Secondly, the paper focuses on the most significant features of the Korean market which have contributed to the K-pop success in the world: the relative smallness of this market, its high level of competition, its lower prices than in any other large developed country, and its innovative ways to cope with intellectual property rights issues. Thirdly, the paper discusses the many ways the K-pop wave could ensure its sustainability, in particular by developing and channeling the huge pool of skills and resources of the current K- pop stars to new entertainment and art activities. Last but not least, the paper addresses the key issue of the ‘Koreanness’ of the K-pop wave: does K-pop send some deep messages from and about Korea to the world? It argues that it does. Keywords: Entertainment; Comparative advantages; Services; Trade in services; Internet; Digital music; Technologies; Intellectual Property Rights; Culture; Koreanness. Introduction from Paul Whiteman, to Barry White, Man
Introduction From Paul Whiteman, to Barry White, Man This monograph explores a long- standing tradition of merging pop- ular music idioms with lush string orchestrations, big- band instrumentation, traditional symphonic instruments, and other markers of musical sophistica- tion, glamour, spectacle, theatricality, and epic or “cinematic” qualities. I call such deluxe—or “luxe”—pop arrangements and performance events “con- spicuous symphonization.” This phrasing underscores entertainment par- allels to Thorstein Veblen’s notion of “conspicuous consumption,” wherein luxury goods and services are employed for displays of social status, wealth, or cultural sophistication. A colloquialism with a similar social meaning is “bling,” a hip- hop slang term referring to displays of an ostentatious life- style of lavish and excessive spending. Conspicuous consumption and bling display are both tied to the purpose of inspiring envy. However, with bling, there is an aversion to melting- pot uniformity in that bling displays involve ironic stylistic tensions through juxtapositions of “low” vernacular/pop cul- ture and the high- status symbols of social power, whether real or perceived. Similar qualities permeate the US “luxe pop” repertories and events explored in this book. This music further reflects important changes in the character and aesthetic discourses of American culture and entertainment. Across the twentieth century, the United States experienced unprece- dented economic prosperity, resulting in middle- class expansion, particularly following -
Addio Milva, Rossa Tra Microfoni E Lustrini
Il Cantautore Delle Domande Consuete. Francesco Guccini in 100 Pagine” (Aereostella 2014)
Francesco Guccini in 100 pagine” (Aereostella 2014).
