La campeona se empinó esta vez con registro de 14,95 metros, en tanto Mabel hizo la competencia de su vida y se estiró hasta los 14,61 metros. La rusa Anna Pyatykh completó el podio (14,58 metros). Antes, solo Rusia había logrado «doblar» en esta modalidad. Sucedió en Stuttgart 1993, por intermedio de Anna Biryukova y Iolanda Chen. Savigne, de solo 24 años, lleva tres medallas en igual cantidad de mundiales disputados, pues ganó la plata en Helsinki 2005 y el oro en Osaka 2007. De paso, se sacó la espina de su discreta actuación en los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing 2008. «Estoy satisfecha. Podía haber saltado más de 15 metros, pero quería asegurar y solo pensaba en ganar la competencia. Quería quitarme el mal recuerdo de Beijing», explicó a la prensa acreditada. Pero no todo fue color de rosas para nuestro país en la tercera fecha, pues Zulia Calatayud quedó eliminada en la semifinal de 800 metros.
