Tip of the Week:

Do it yourself and learn!

If you have not gone to the back of the house and used the ice resurfacer or the edger in a while it maybe time to do so. Many times the IR operators will put up with malfunctioning machines, worn out tires and leaky hoses because no one seems to care.

As a manager it is important to take the time to use the equipment or in some cases just observe what the staff needs to do to complete their job. Many times the manager will say "I thought they were just whining but I guess they really do need a new set of tires on the machine". Rink employees can be a very resourceful bunch but left unchecked they can do dangerous things in the name of getting the job done!

So if its been a while get back there and see how things are going for yourself!

I am wondering how much revenue other members generate from one sheet of ice per year? I have been asked by our board to get a range of other ice arenas, to determine if our utilization rate is appropriate. If you could provide the state your rink is in that would be helpful as well.

During your ice install, does your rink use lay-in logos or does your staff pounce and paint the logos?
