A Narrative Exploration of Squid Jigging in Seattle Gavin Aubrey Tiemeyer MES 2020 CATCHING INKFISH IN THE EMERALD CITY: A NARRATIVE EXPLORATION OF SQUID JIGGING IN SEATTLE By Gavin Aubrey Tiemeyer A Thesis Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Environmental Studies The Evergreen State College June 2020 ©2019 by Gavin Aubrey Tiemeyer. All rights reserved. This Thesis for the Master of Environmental Studies Degree by Gavin Aubrey Tiemeyer has been approved for The Evergreen State College by _____________________ Kathleen Saul, Ph. D. Member of the Faculty _____________________ Date ABSTRACT Catching Inkfish in the Emerald City: A Narrative Exploration of Squid Jigging in Seattle Gavin Aubrey Tiemeyer Squid jigging is a popular fishing pastime that takes place during the fall and early winter at piers along the Central Waterfront of Seattle and the greater Puget Sound. Despite its popularity, there’s no academic research about who fishes for squid, or their reasons for doing so. The squid jigging community of Seattle has been documented extensively over the last twenty years, thanks in part, to the reporting of the Seattle Times. Preliminary analysis of tertiary sources suggests that squid jigging is important to participants for a combination of cultural and recreational reasons; providing an opportunity to spend time with friends and family, a connection to nature, and access to an inexpensive food source. Squid jigging is also deeply rooted in Seattle’s fishing culture and is influenced by places around the world, including Japan, Italy, and Southeast Asia, to name just a few. Meanwhile, Seattle’s Central Waterfront is undergoing a massive $728M redevelopment project with popular squid jigging destinations such as Waterfront Park (Pier 58), the Aquarium Pier (59), and Pier 62/63 undergoing extensive renovations.

29/07/2014 4:47 PM http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~westklic/howcoc7a.htm Search billions of records on Ancestry.com Search POST OFFICES WITHIN THE PRESENT BOUNDARY OF WASCO COUNTY The names and data pertaining to the post offices of Wasco county was supplied by Edwin R. Payne, Salem, Oregon post office clerk, stamp and cover collector who said, "my stamp and cover collecting hobby led to old covers (envelopes) postmarked from post offices in Oregon that no longer exist. In order to know where these places were I started a list of dead post offices. Others gave me help and I made research in old postal guides in various libraries, but such directories gave no dates of establishment or discontinuation of offices. I interested Lewis McArthur in the subject and through him and a close friend in Washington, D.C., we hired girls to copy the Oregon post office ledgers, about 4000 work sheets, in the National Archives! From those sheets I have compiled the Oregon post office list of all offices! They could be obtained in no other way and from no other source. All of this information will be in the third edition of Lewis A. McArthur's OREGON GEOGRAPHIC NAMES which will be off the Binford & Mort press in Portland November 1952. It is a must for history lovers and collectors." From Mr. Payne's list of Oregon post offices we have compiled two lists of Wasco county post offices. The first list are the 55 offices within the present boundary of Wasco county. The distances indicated from The Dalles are by the original roads, not our longer highways.

  • Lesson 2: the Height and Co-Height Functions of a Ferris Wheel
NYS COMMON CORE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM Lesson 2 M2 ALGEBRA II e Lesson 2: The Height and Co-Height Functions of a Ferris Wheel Student Outcomes . Students model and graph two functions given by the location of a passenger car on a Ferris wheel as it is rotated a number of degrees about the origin from an initial reference position. Lesson Notes Students extend their work with the function that represents the height of a passenger car on a Ferris wheel from Lesson 1 to define a function that represents the horizontal displacement of the car from the center of the wheel, which is temporarily called the co-height function. In later lessons, the co-height function is related to the cosine function. Students sketch graphs of various co-height functions and notice that these graphs are nonlinear. Students explain why the graph of the co-height function is a horizontal translation of the graph of the height function and sketch graphs that model the position of a passenger car for various-sized Ferris wheels. The work in the first three lessons of Module 2 serves to ground students in circular motion and set the stage for a formal definition of the sine and cosine functions in Lessons 4 and 5. In Lesson 1, students measured the height of a passenger car of the Ferris wheel in relation to the ground and started tracking cars as passengers boarded at the bottom of the wheel. In this lesson, we change our point of view to measure height is measured as vertical displacement from the center of the wheel, and the co-height is measured as the horizontal displacement from the center of the wheel.

THE BOEING COMPANY AND BROWN BEAR CAR WASH PRESENT 38th ANNUAL FRIDAY, JULY 11, 2014 WELCOME TO WOODLAND Park Zoo’s 38th ANNUAL JUNGLE PARTY “CARNAVAL: RHYTHM OF THE RAIN Forest” FRIDAY, JULY 11, 2014 WOODLAND PARK ZOO, NORTH MEADOW J. A. McGraw The funds generated this evening will support wildlife conservation initiatives, engaging education and zoo outreach programs, new animal exhibits and exemplary animal care. 1 Our Mission and Vision WOODLAND PARK ZOO SAVES ANIMALS AND THEIR HABITATS THROUGH CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP AND ENGAGING EXPERIENCES, INSPIRING PEOPLE TO LEARN, CARE AND ACT. For some animals, zoos may be their only chance for survival. For some children, zoos may be their only opportunity to see animals in natural settings. As our society becomes further separated from nature, zoos are poised to teach visitors about wildlife and, in turn, spark a commitment to help preserve animals in the wild and their natural habitats. Animals and plants live their lives as increasingly interdependent. Worldwide, over 1,400 plants and animal species are now designated as endangered and face the threat of extinction. Human population growth and habitat destruction have escalated the extinction rate to one or more species a day.* It is only through better public understanding of the fragility of our natural systems – and the impact of human beings upon them – that there is hope to shape attitudes, make emotional connections and change behaviors that can positively impact wildlife conservation. Please help us create a sustainable future for wildlife. It is your donation that will enable Woodland Park Zoo to maintain and even raise its level of excellence in exhibit design, education, wildlife conservation, animal care and horticulture.
