East to Lake Perris Drive, left to Recreation Area. DAY OF SHOW PARKING Parking lot will open at 6:00 a.m. each day. There will be a $10.00. No setups in day of show parking. An unloading area will be available for 20 minutes maximum. HANDICAPPED PARKING No provision for overnight handicapped parking will be provided. A limited number of day of show auto handicapped parking spaces will be available, but may have been relocated from previously designated locations. GROOMING AND SETUPS No crates, exercise pens, grooming tables, or setups will be allowed in the aisles or between rings. No setups within 20 feet of the rings or vendors. Grooming and setup areas will be designated by the Club. Ring side seating will not be provided or allowed. No grooming tents will be provided. Exhibitors are encouraged to bring their own shade.. No force air dryers will be permitted. GENERATORS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 100 FEET FROM ANY SHOW RING No Vehicle access within show grounds area allowed after 7:00 a.m. on day of show.     Sporting Group Study Guide Naturally active and alert, Sporting dogs make likeable, well-rounded companions. Remarkable for their instincts in water and woods, many of these breeds actively continue to participate in hunting and other field activities. Potential owners of Sporting dogs need to realize that most require regular, invigorating exercise. The breeds of the AKC Sporting Group were all developed to assist hunters of feathered game. These “sporting dogs” (also referred to as gundogs or bird dogs) are subdivided by function—that is, how they hunt. They are spaniels, pointers, setters, retrievers, and the European utility breeds. Of these, spaniels are generally considered the oldest. Early authorities divided the spaniels not by breed but by type: either water spaniels or land spaniels. The land spaniels came to be subdivided by size. The larger types were the “springing spaniel” and the “field spaniel,” and the smaller, which specialized on flushing woodcock, was known as a “cocking spaniel.” ~~How many breeds are in this group? 31~~ 1. American Water Spaniel a. Country of origin: USA (lake country of the upper Midwest) b. Original purpose: retrieve from skiff or canoes and work ground c. Other Names: N/A d. Very Brief History: European immigrants who settled near the great lakes depended on the region’s plentiful waterfowl for sustenance. The Irish Water Spaniel, the Curly-Coated Retriever, and the now extinct English Water Spaniel have been mentioned in histories as possible component breeds. e. Coat color/type: solid liver, brown or dark chocolate. A little white on toes and chest is permissible.

Remember one of the best things about being part of the Lodge, is that many of our members enjoy activities outside of Lodge functions and events. Autophagy is a degradative cellular process, responsible for the turnover of damaged organelles and clearance of protein aggregates, that is disturbed in several neurodegenerative diseases in man.

Previous studies are either old or include only one or a few selected breeds. The aim of this large-scale retrospective study was to estimate the mean litter size in a large population of purebred dogs and to describe some factors that might influence the litter size. A total of 10,810 litters of 224 breeds registered in the Norwegian Kennel Club from 2006 to 2007 were included in the study. The overall mean litter size at birth was 5.4 (Ϯ 0.025). A generalized linear mixed model with a random intercept for breed revealed that the litter size was significantly influenced by the size of the breed, the method of mating and the age of the bitch. A significant interaction between breed size and age was detected, in that the expected number of puppies born decreased more for older bitches of large breeds.

    Give a Dog a Genome update and Complex Disease Research at the AHT Dr Cathryn Mellersh and Dr Sally Ricketts Talk Layout • Canine genetics at the AHT • Give a Dog a Genome, part I – background • Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) – what is it and how we use it to find disease variants • Give a Dog a Genome, part II – update • Complex disease investigation Canine Genetics at AHT • The broad aim of the Canine Genetics Research group at the Animal Health Trust is to investigate the genetic basis of important inherited diseases in dogs and identify genetic variants that underpin those diseases. • Our definition of important is a disease that is painful, causes visual impairment, requires surgical or medical intervention or otherwise reduces the quality or length of life of affected dogs. • An immediate-term objective of our research is to develop DNA tools that dog breeders can use to reduce the incidence of disease in future generations of dogs and that veterinary surgeons can use to help diagnose disease. • A longer-term aim is for our findings to improve our understanding of the biology underlying disease in dogs and other species. Give a Dog a Genome • The Give a Dog a Genome project was established to help us meet our objectives more time- and cost-effectively • In 2015 the Kennel Club Charitable Trust awarded the KCGC £50,000 to spend on Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) • This is sufficient funding to sequence ~25 whole genomes • On 25th January 2016 the Kennel Club contacted the Breed Health Co- ordinators of all 215 registered breeds, inviting them to participate in Give a Dog a Genome • We invited each breed community to donate £1000 • We promised to match each donation with £1000 from the KCCT funding to fund the sequencing of the whole genome of a dog of that breed.
