LODGE 2442 NEWSLETTER

Dear Lodge Brothers and Sisters, In January, many of us attended 2 musical experiences at the Connetquot library. Anna Maria Villa and Sal Manzo, both terrific entertainers and I have recommended each of them to the Culture & Heritage Festival Committee for their Event this summer After each event we went out to dinner and had a wonderful time with our Lodge Brothers & Sisters. Remember one of the best things about being part of the Lodge, is that many of our members enjoy activities outside of Lodge functions and events. I want to thank my wife for making the arrangements for us. It’s been a fast two years. I leave the Presidency with a sense of accomplishment. I am confident that Luisa and Dottie will do a fantastic job leading the lodge with integrity and energy. It’s important that you attend the March 4th Installation Ceremony to support the newly elected officers and thank the outgoing officers for a job well done. The ceremony takes place in the front room of the Acampora Center and the dessert that follows is in the regular meeting room. I am looking forward to being the Immediate Past President and active member of the Lodge.

Sincerely, President Bob Donato, AVANTI

FEBRUARY 2, GROUNDHOG DAY; THIS TRADITIONALLY MARKS THE MIDPOINT BETWEEN WINTER SOLSTICE & SPRING EQUINOX. AROUND THIS TIME FARMERS NEEDED TO DETERMINE WHEN TO PLANT THEIR CROPS, SO THEY TRIED TO FORCAST WHETHER THERE WOULD BE AN EARLY SPRING OR A LINGERING WINTER. SUNSHINE ON FEB. 2ND (CANDLEMAS) WAS SAID TO INDICATE THE RETURN OF WINTER. IF IT WAS CLOUDY & DARK, WARMTH & RAIN WOULD THAW OUT THE FIELDS AND HAVE THEM READY FOR PLANTING. GROUNDHOG DAY IS A SORT OF SURVIVOR OF THAT BELIEF. IF THE GROUNDHOG SEES ITS SHADOW, 6 MORE WEEKS OF WINTER, IF NOT, SPRING IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.

A priest named Valentine disobeyed the Emperor. He secretly married many young couples. When the Emperor found out, he had Valentine imprisoned. Valentine was beheaded for his disobedience on February 14. Since Valentine had helped lovers, the day he died became a day for people to express love for other

l THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS

Here’s hoping that we get through February with very little problems from the weather. I do enjoy being snowed in, with a cup of Hot Chocolate with mini marshmallows, searching for stories to put into the Newsletter that I find interesting (and hope you do too) and that we are each learning a bit more about our heritage. Right now I am listening to an Audio BOOK, MURDER IN MATERA, (Matera, Basilicata, Italy) a TRUE story of Passion, Family & Forgiveness in Southern Italy. Vita and Francesco were involved in a murder in Italy. The author pursues the study of HER family’s criminal genealogy with unexpected results. This is an excellent story, it will make you feel you are in Italy. Author; HELENE STAPINSKI (One of my New Year Resolutions is to get back to listening to Audio Books) Won’t you join me, grab a warm cup of your favorite beverage, pop in an audio CD and be transported to Italy for a little while. Sinceramente, Angela
